COLLEGE NEWS

From the Principal

Term 3 Wrap Up.

As we approach the end of term, we are pleased to have had the opportunity to celebrate the achievements, and acknowledge the hard work of our students and staff.

HSC Dance Performance Examination

Our Dance students completed their HSC performance examinations on 13th and 14th August. Two students have been nominated for CALLBACK based on their outstanding Core Performance, Congratulations go to Jessica Glastonbury and Sarah Glastonbury.

Jessica and Sarah now go into a final selection process that will determine the students selected for CALLBACK. We all wish Jessica and Sarah good luck.

HSC Visual Arts Exhibition

Our hardworking HSC Visual Arts students and staff once again held an amazing exhibition of students’ HSC Body of Work (BOW). The works were outstanding and covered a variety of styles and media.

All the works challenged the viewer to consider different points of view, and the exhibition provided a final opportunity for our students to show their BOW to parents, peers and staff prior to being sent for HSC marking.

Thank you to Jennie and Daniel who have advised and worked with the students to get them to this point. I wish our students well for the HSC marking of their BOW and the ARTEXPRESS selection process.

HSC Industrial Technology and Design & Technology

This term we also saw the wonderful showcase and talents of our IT (Multimedia and Timber) and D&T students as they presented their HSC Major Works for submission.

There were a few late nights in lead up to submission day, but all students managed to complete their works and portfolios in time.

Thank you to the families who came to see the showcase to support our students and staff. I would also like to acknowledge the hard work and long hours put in by Dallas and David supporting students to complete their works.

Other HSC Major Projects and Performances

HSC students this term also completed HSC works for Society & Culture, Textiles & Design, Drama and Music. I am extremely pleased and proud of their performances and submissions. Every student has worked to the best of their ability has put in lots of time and effort to get to this point.

I would also like to acknowledge the hard work, commitment and additional hours staff have put in to support students to design, plan, research and prepare their HSC works and meet the due dates and would like to thank them on behalf of the students and the college.

Careers and Wellbeing Expo

Our students were involved in a Careers & Wellbeing Expo Day on Wednesday 28th August. The day was designed to help Year 12 students with their post-school pathway planning. Students were involved in various workshops and information sessions and had an opportunity to speak with staff from various organisations and providers at the Expo stalls.

Year 11 students were also invited to visit the Expo stalls so they could start thinking about their future pathway. Many thanks to Sara Imanian our SSO, for organising the day and coordinating the many speakers and external providers so our students had access to valuable pathway information.

Timetable and Lines 2025

We are currently in the process of finalising courses and timetable lines for 2025. I would like to thank Suzy Tarasenko. Kellie Boyd, Marguerite Hernage and Karen Tuynman who have been interviewing students enrolling into Year 11 2025 and assisting them in selecting courses that support their future pathways while meeting HSC and ATAR requirements as required.

Our current Year 11 students are starting to request adjustments to their pattern of study for Year 12. These applications will be processed so that students will be ready to commence their Year 12 courses in week 3 of next term. These requests need to meet NESA requirements for the HSC, and if a student requires an ATAR, then these requirements will also need to be considered. Unfortunately, not all changes can be accommodated. Ann-Maree Ager, Deb Dunn, Helen Shandil, Marguerite Hernage and Karen Tuynman will be working through these applications and making timetable adjustments.

2025 Student Leaders

The SRC recently held speeches and voting for the 2025 School Captains elections. Congratulations go to our new student leaders:

Captains - Bryce Ayscough & Aiden Starr

Vice Captains - Chelsea Hornjak & Ryan Mills

Their first official role will commence with the Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2024. What an amazing team who will be outstanding representatives for the student body and the college.

We also welcomed additional students to join the SRC. Congratulations to Farhan, Muhammad, Arliah, Charlie and Leah. They will bring new energy, ideas and commitment to the team. I look forward working with the new student leadership team over the next 12 months.

Year 12 Holiday Tutorials

Staff will be conducting tutorials during the upcoming school holidays. Denis is currently coordinating and preparing the tutorial timetable, which will, when complete, be emailed to students and advertised through our Facebook and Instagram pages. Many thanks to the staff who are giving up their holiday time to support our students. I hope that students will avail themselves of the support being offered by staff through these tutorials.

This is the last Wyndham Whispers for the term and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our Year 12 students before they leave us to undertake their HSC examinations in Term 4. A reminder that HSC Written Examination commence on Tuesday 15th October. Students must attend the scheduled NESA HSC examination time for each of their courses as there is no opportunity to complete a rescheduled examination for the HSC.

I wish all our Year 12 students good luck for the HSC Examinations and look forward to celebrating with the students at the Nirimba Collegiate Formal on 13th November and at the Year 12 Morning Tea on 18th December, after the HSC results are released.
