During Semester 1, Year 8 Technology students engaged in studies focused on either the Engineering or Textiles contexts.

In the Engineering unit, the students developed their knowledge of force, motion and energy to design and construct a working engineered system, specifically a CAM toy. Throughout this process, they developed a theme for their design and explored how altering the CAM shape could produce different movements to convey a story within their design. The project allowed students to enhance their technical drawing skills, including isometric and oblique perspectives. They then utilised a range of woodworking tools and machinery, such as the disc sander, pedestal drill, hand saws, and cordless sanders, to construct their final product.

In the Textiles unit, students investigated the role of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Fashion Designers and their impact on individuals, society, and the environment. They researched the characteristics and properties of cotton and considered how textile products are designed to meet specific needs. Practically, they learned various machine skills and experimented with hand embroidery and fabric decoration techniques to design and create a unique drawstring bag. Students also had the opportunity to personalise their bags by designing and cutting a vinyl decal using Cricut software and machinery.

To wrap up Semester 1, the students proudly presented their final designs to their peers from other classes. They also participated in voting for the best design in each class, resulting in a 'Student's Choice' medal being awarded to the student who received the most votes.

Year 9 to 12 Agriculture and Primary Industries:

Dawn broke as our 18 strong Show team converged upon the Hawkesbury Showground to compete against 11 other schools involved in raising and training a Murray Gray steer over a hundred day period. Carefully selected steers of similar age and temperament had been bred at Gunning by the Prattley family. In early May, our steer UNO joined our school community and bonded with our Showteam who managed his ration to achieve a growth rate of 1.5 kg per day. Respectful interactions of training and grooming  culminated in the August Liveday. Cattle were judged by industry practitioners and team members demonstrated their skills in parading, cattle judging, public speaking and showing evidence of their learning. We thank the judges, our sponsors; Manildra Group (pellets), Bendigo Bank and Hawkesbury Valley Environmental Pest specialists (financial support) and Autism Advisory and Support Service (BBQ)
