Partnerships and Pathways
A group of students attended the STEMC Careers Expo at Sydney Olympic Park this week. Hosted by Transport for NSW, the event aimed to increase awareness of STEMC careers, with a focus on encouraging young women into science, technology, engineering, maths and construction pathways in this industry. Students engaged with professionals and explored real-life STEMC applications in transport, including VR training tools, signalling systems, drones, and environmental sustainability technologies. The day featured hands-on displays, interactive activities, and a panel discussion, which sparked curiosity and thoughtful questions from students and highlighted the diverse career paths on offer through Transport for NSW.
Year 9 students visited Western Sydney University’s Kingswood campus last week as part of the innovative WSU Fast Forward program. They explored a variety of courses and opportunities, gaining valuable insights from Western graduates. Participating in fun scenarios and activities, including an interactive campus challenge, tested their communication, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. The Caroline Chisholm team excelled, finishing equal second overall while demonstrating excellent teamwork and a positive attitude! Well done girls on being wonderful ambassadors for our College!
Lunch and Learn hosted a special Science Week 2024 edition recently, exploring the theme "Species Survival: More Than Just Sustainability". Two inspiring guest speakers from Seymour Whyte, Dorothy Wonson and Sarah Whitfield, shared their experiences with students, discussing their important roles in wildlife protection and their unique journeys as women in the construction industry. Through engaging stories, they highlighted various projects they've worked on and their contributions to preserving local environments and habitats. The session was a fascinating mix of career exploration and environmental education. Special thanks to one of our parents, Sharon Pearce from Seymour Whyte, for helping to make the event such a success!
