Years 5-6 Cultural Learning and Kids Helping Cockies
On Monday 11th November we were very fortunate to be part of the Kids Helping Cockies program. After a presentation about endangered Red-Tailed Black Cockatoos by Bronwyn Perryman, we walked to the Edenhope Flora and Fauna Reserve. Here we got to collect seed from Stringybark trees so that we can propagate these trees as they are a major food source for the cockatoos.
We also spent time with local Elder Uncle Ron Marks who showed us lots of interesting things along the trail in the reserve. He had a lot of stories to tell about the bush and what different plants have been used for in the past.
Students from St Malachys joined us for the day as well. Grade six students enjoyed spending time with those who will be in Year 7 with them next year.
It was a really interesting day and we learned a lot. We are looking forward to growing some trees to make a difference for the Red-Tailed Black Cockatoos.
A big thank you to Ms Farran for organising the day, and to Mrs Freeman who joined us too.
Year F-1 Cultural Learning
Foundation and Year 1 students also got the opportunity to work with Uncle Ron on Monday.
Years 2, 3, 4 Cultural Learning
On Tuesday year 2/3/4 students along with St Malachy's students went to the Flora and Fauna reserve. They enjoyed collecting seed from the stringy bark trees as well as listening to stories from uncle Ron. A great day full of sunshine as well as a lovely walk through the mosaic art track.
F-1 Woodwork
In woodwork the foundation and year1's are making a set of domino's to learn the numbers games and to also take home. The class will also be making a larger set to use in future years in the classroom.
