Sophie Newland and the staff in the Food Studies area have made many improvements in the waste processes in their department. Sophie thinks that they have been able to reduce landfill rubbish by one third to a quarter.
In this space the staff and students have a paper recycling bin and collect cardboard as well.
Changes are being made toward purchasing environmentally friendly detergent and dishwashing powder as well as glad wrap and baking paper.
Mixed recycling is being used correctly and emptied regularly, all food waste is collected and placed in the FOGO wheelie bin, the boxes from Hill Street Grocer are returned and used again and reusable paper is stored in the paper tray.
