Student Achievements
During the last week of Term 3, Year 7 student Freya Nally represented Tasmania in the Under 14s Footlocker Club Basketball Championships held in Casey, Victoria.
25 teams competed from around Australia, the Tasmanian southern girls taking away the Fair Play award.
On the weekend, Year 8 students Scarlett Henderson and Ariane Jones both competed in the Tasmanian State Bouldering Titles. Both girls showed great resilience and supported each other through the all day competition.
Scarlett and Ariene train each week together at RockIt and their hard work has paid off with Ariane now ranked 1st and ranked Scarlett 3rd in Tasmania for their age category in Bouldering (free climbing without ropes).
Recently, Year 5 Navy student Aimee Chen representing Kingborough Gymnastics Club and Tasmania at the Southern Cross Classic Competition held in Geelong, Victoria. The competition is an invitational event held every year for gymnasts on the High Performance Pathway in Women's Artistic Gymanstics in Australia.
Aimee competed in the Level 8 Under Division on Vault (placed 5th), Bars (placed 1st), Beam (placed 1st) and Floor (placed 3rd). She also achieved 1st All Around and Southern Cross Level 8 Champion.
All Schools Track and Field
Congratulations to the athletes that competed in the Tasmanian All Schools Track and Field Championships over the weekend of 2-3 November at the Domain. There were some outstanding performances, personal bests and it was wonderful to see students challenging themselves in tough competition. Mount Carmel students with top 3 placings include:
- Arielle Cannell (Year 10): U18 - 1st Hammer, 2nd Shot Put, 2nd Discus
- Miranda Gillie (Year 9): 1st U16 High Jump
- Willow Helgeson (Year 6): U14 – 1st Hammer, 1st Javelin, 2nd Shot Put, 2nd Discus, 12 Years – 2nd Shot Put, 2nd Discus
- Breeze Downey (Year 6): 12 Years – 1st High Jump, 1st Long Jump, 3rd in 100m
