Secondary Sub School Rooms 19 - 27
Bill Vasilevski - Secondary Sub School Leader
Hello Everyone,
It’s been fantastic to see the excitement building across our secondary classes, with many engaging programs taking place. We had a group of senior secondary students attending camp this week and loved the experience. It's been wonderful to see how independent and confident our students have become in taking on this experience. Many of them are fully embracing the opportunity, stepping out of their comfort zones, and demonstrating resilience and self-reliance as they navigate the camp activities. I can’t wait to attend with next week's group.
Our students are continuing to work hard on their personal and academic goals, embracing every opportunity to learn and grow. It's an exciting time, and I’m proud of the dedication and enthusiasm our staff and students are showing as we approach the end of the year.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to sharing more exciting updates as the year wraps up. Don’t forget to keep an eye on the school calendar for upcoming events and important dates!
Regards,
Bill
ROOM 21
Term 4 has been an exciting and stimulating time for the students in Room 21, filled with a variety of engaging activities. A highlight of the term was the Animal Farm experience, where students had the opportunity to meet and greet friendly animals such as rabbits, goats, chickens, guinea pigs, and sheep. Students have also enjoyed participating in the Canine Program where they have been able to connect and play games with ‘Victor’. These hands-on experiences have allowed students to connect with animals in a meaningful way.
We were all grateful that the Luna Park excursion was able to be rescheduled after it was initially cancelled due to inclement weather. Students thoroughly enjoyed the rides, including the Ghost Train, Scenic Railway, and the Ferris wheel, which provided a fun-filled day of excitement. Another enjoyable outing was to Go Climb, where students had the chance to challenge themselves physically. Aya demonstrated a competitive spirit by challenging both teachers and peers to climb to the top of various obstacles. Students also enjoyed playing mini golf, which added to the fun of the term. The Halloween celebrations were another highlight, with students dressing up and participating in trick-or-treating activities.
Throughout the term, Room 21 students have continued to grow and learn across all subject areas, as well as in their personal and social skills. Topics covered this term included ‘Children’s Rights,’ ‘The Journey of the Bogong Moths,’ and the Northern Territory. Students have embraced new challenges in mathematics, geography, and cooking. Overall, it has been a fantastic first year in the Senior sub school, where students have continued to develop and thrive.
ROOM 22
This term, Room 22 students have continued to make remarkable progress in their School-Based Apprenticeships (SBAT) and VET courses, fully engaging in their learning and hands-on experiences. Several students also participated in work experience at Endeavour in Thomastown, where they worked in food packaging, gaining valuable skills in the process.
One of the standout achievements this term was the students' VPC Fundraiser to raise funds for the post-production of their documentary, Community on the Spectrum. The fundraiser raised a fantastic $482.10, an outstanding accomplishment!
This Friday, November 29, the students will premiere their documentary in the gym of the Yaluk building. The event will be attended by all secondary staff and students, leadership, administration, parents and carers of students from Room 22, and some special guests. Liam will host the event, which will include a Q&A section and acknowledgements for those who helped or were involved in the project. The documentary provides a powerful and insightful look at our school community, showcasing the dedication and hard work of the students in Room 22.
In other exciting news, Room 22 enjoyed excursions to Luna Park and Wyncity Bowling. The students had a blast on the rides at Luna Park, especially enjoying the Scenic Railway, and had lots of fun bowling. They couldn’t help but laugh at their teacher’s amusing bowling techniques!
Congratulations to Ethan, Ibrahim, Ayden and Damien who each were the recipients of one of the Hume Whittlesea LLEN Vocational Education Awards last week at the Broadmeadows Town Hall. I am so proud of you all and it was an honour to share this special event with you.
Next week, we will celebrate the graduation of Ethan, Ibrahim, Andreas, Ayden, and Jordyn. We will miss them all greatly, but we wish them all the very best in their future endeavours. We are confident they will each be successful in their own unique ways.
Finally, we are looking forward to a well-deserved break during the Summer school holidays. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday, and a joyful and blessed Christmas!
