Intercol Competition

On Wednesday 26 August, Loreto hosted its inaugural intercollegiate competition against Mary Mackillop College and what a fun afternoon it was!  We played three games of netball, finishing the night on a nailbiter to decide the overall winner, with Loreto securing two of the three shields.  Thank you very much to all the families who supported this event, it was wonderful to see so many people cheering on our Loreto teams.

Junior Sports News

Soccer

Our Year 5/6 teams had a Showdown with Loreto Blue taking on Loreto Gold last Friday (photos will be sent separately). It was a hard-fought affair played in beautiful sunshine. The standard of play was high and pleasingly we only lost one ball in the creek. Maeve and Matilda pulled off some impressive saves in goal and Sofia was impassable in defence. Chelsea’s sensational first half hattrick ended up being the difference between the two sides.

Meanwhile our Year 4 girls travelled to St Peters and enjoyed a stunning 7-0 win. Our team has been gaining strength throughout the winter and this was perhaps our most complete display. April scored 2 goals, Everly and Allegra snared one each while Grace-Marie dodged and weaved her way to a hattrick.

Netball

Our Primary 1 team are having an outstanding season and sit on top of the table with one round to go. A win this Saturday will see them crowned premiers. Good luck to Megan and the girls!

Our Primary 3, Primary 7 and Primary 10 teams all have their final games of the season this week. They have had excellent seasons, shown terrific improvement and should be proud of their efforts. For the Year 5/6s, our Sub Junior teams also play their last minor round games this week and have the added challenge of finals qualification. Teams need to finish in the top four and we have several teams in the mix.

For our trainings this week, the teams played lightning carnivals for a bit of fun. The Green team won our Year 3/4 carnival on Monday… then the Green team also won our Year 5/6 carnival on Thursday morning. Lucky bibs perhaps?

Athletics

At the time of writing, we have a team of athletes heading off to Bridgestone Stadium for the East Adelaide SAPSASA athletics trials. Loreto has students competing in the 1500m, 800m, 200m, 100m, high jump, long jump, discus, shot put and 4 x 100m relays. Full report in the next newsletter!

Student Achievements

SAPSASA Soccer - Well done to Beatrice Mezzini, Sofia Spagnoletti and Alexandra Holland who represented the East Adelaide SAPSASA zone in the state carnival last week. The team had a great week, finishing 7th in Division 1.

Lucy Diestel-Federsen: Dance - Well done to Lucy who achieved some outstanding results at the Hollywood Bound dance competition last weekend. Lucy has competed both with her individual solo and also with her three troupe teams (Hip Hop, Song and Dance and Jazz) in many competitions throughout July and August including Candance, Get The Beat, Evolution, Time to Shine, and Hollywood Bound. Lucy's performance at Hollywood Bound saw her receiving a score of 185 out of a possible 200 points which gave her a Gold placing, a top 5 superstar award, and the 6th best solo in the competition for her age group out of any of the performances. The other contestants scores were compiled from multiple genres combined with Lucy's score in just one. She has been invited as one of the top 10 to attend the National Finals in the Gold Coast in January. Amazing!

Netball trials - Good luck to Greta Hart who is trialling for Garville’s summer netball teams at the moment!

If your daughter has some sporting news she would like to share, please send it through to Ben at Ben.Johnswood@loreto.sa.edu.au

Aerobics

We have three teams tuning up for the National Championships at the moment with LC Dynamite, LC Illusion and LC Thunder all heading off to the Gold Coast next week. Coaches Ruby, Steph, Jas, Molly and Poppy have the teams working hard. Good luck to all the girls who are competing – no doubt there will be some nerves, but it should be an amazing experience and great fun. You have worked hard for months and months so can take confidence from having that body of work behind you.

Basketball vs Walford

The Year 4/5/6 basketball season at Wayville finished a bit abruptly in Term 3 so we have scheduled some extra games against other girls’ colleges. The first of these was this week and we travelled to Walford to take on their IGSSA team. Our girls played an excellent game, running out 6 point winners. It was the most aggressive we’ve been on defence all season and it is great to now see all girls using their dribbling skills and taking the ball up the court, rather than just leaving it to a couple of players.

Zoe marshalled our defence and was always unselfish with the ball, bringing her teammates into the game. Erin rebounded strongly and had a hot streak with her shooting in the second half. Greta continues her evolution from netballer playing basketball to basketballer. Our Year 4s Savy, Trisha and Isabelle continue to punch above their weight against older players. Next Wednesday we host Seymour at Loreto to close out our winter season.
