The Season of Creation

“Future generations will never forgive us if we miss the opportunity to protect our common home. We have inherited a garden; we must not leave a desert for our children.”

Joint statement from Pope Francis, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Archbishop Justin Welby of Canterbury.

The Season of Creation runs from the 1st of September to the 4th of October, the feast Day of St Frances of Assisi.  This year’s theme is Let Justice and Peace Flow. It is a reminder of our call to care for our planet and a season to reflect on the action we need to take in the ecological crisis we are facing.

As a Loreto community we are reminded of our commitment to Ecological Justice; Ecological Justice - Loreto. As a community we are called to contemplate the interconnectedness of all life on Earth and recognise our role as stewards of creation. As we engage in prayer, advocacy, and meaningful action during this season, we draw inspiration from the wisdom of Laudato Si, and heed Pope Francis's call to "hear the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor" (para 49, Francis 2015) and actively contribute to the healing of our planet.

Loreto Environment Committee

The College Environment Committee lead by Year 11 Student Alexandra Seal has committed to promoting the Season of Creation to the School Community.  Throughout the Season of Creation, students are invited to participate in a number of activities that encourage all students to understand their place in the stewardship of our world. Classes are invited to complete a Bingo activity and there is also a poster competition where classes are invited to create a poster with the slogan “"Bin it right, to preserve the Earth's might!"

Students Sleep out for Hutt St.

Last week our year 12 students took place in the annual Sleep Out to highlight the growing prominence of people experiencing homelessness in Adelaide.  The students raised funds for the vital work of Hutt St Centre.   Our year 12 students were inspired by Mary Wards call to be ‘seekers of truth and doers of justice’. If you would like to donate to their initiative, please follow the link below.

Social Justice Captain Ayshia stated “It was a great opportunity and an eye-opening experience to the circumstances that people face each day.  It was reassuring to know that I could go home in the morning, but confronting to know that many people do not have the option of a warm bed, warm shower and clean clothes, basic needs that we often take for granted”.

Our Liturgical Life

Monday Liturgy - Book Week Liturgy

Our Prayer Leaders did an outstanding job leading the liturgy on Monday. The theme for the day was inspired by the magic of books, and it was a wonderful opportunity for our students to reflect on the power of literature and storytelling in our lives. We were reminded that each book opens a door to a world of imagination and knowledge, just as our faith guides us on our journey.

Assumption of Mary

On Tuesday, our students gathered in the chapel for a special Mass to honour the Assumption of Mary. The Mass was uniquely led by our reception and Year 2 students, and it was a heart-warming experience. It was a testament to the unity and spirit of our community, and the chapel was filled with proud parents witnessing this beautiful moment.

Season of Creation

Our liturgies this week focused on the Season of Creation. The Season of Creation is a time for us to reflect on our responsibility to care for the environment and appreciate the beauty of God's creation. We encourage all members of our school community to join us in this reflection and commitment to preserving the world we call home. This important theme was led by our Year 5B students on Monday. Our Year 8 students held their Chapel mass this week, and continued a look at the theme, Fr Chris Jenkins reminded the girls to care for God’s creation, humans, animals and our eco system.

We would like to extend our gratitude to all the students, teachers, and parents who have contributed to our spiritual journey throughout the week. Your presence and participation have made these events even more special, and we look forward to continuing to grow together in faith and community.
