Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden 2025
Last week, we said goodbye to 3/4M after seven fantastic weeks in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. The students worked incredibly hard in both the garden and kitchen, learning a range of new skills along the way.
They also made history by setting a new St Mark’s record—welcoming an incredible 20 volunteers throughout their program! This amazing level of support made a real difference and highlights the wonderful community spirit we have here at the school. It was a pleasure to meet and work with so many family members and friends who were keen to get involved and support our students.
This week, we kicked things off again—this time with 3/4D. Our first activity was creating placemats, which turned out to be perfect timing given the chilly weather that arrived today!
A big thank you to Ashleigh (Azaria’s mum), Rosie (Gemma’s Mum), Diana (Christopher’s mum), and Shany (G’zelle’s mum) for joining us and lending a hand in our first week. Your support is truly appreciated!
We’re excited for the weeks ahead and can’t wait to see what 3/4D will accomplish in the garden and kitchen.
Arigatou!

Student Reflections:
Sophia: Today we made pizza for our last time cooking. I had so much fun cooking with school and when my mum came to cook with us. Cooking with school taught me how to use a knife properly and not cut myself. I had a great time and the parents and Miss siegert were the best at helping and taking care of us and helped us be safe and not hurt ourselves. We loved cooking and it was fun to make pizza and a bunch of other fun and tasty foods I loved. We also made vegemite scrolls. That's when my mum came to cook with us and I made it with my friend and mum.
Annabelle: Today was our last cooking class. It was so fun. I made pumpkin muffins with the group eggplants. Then we made our reflections. Then we all ate the last meal together. Cooking has been so fun. We made so many meals. I’m so sad it’s over.
Sienna J: Today I made salad. The ingredients were onions, olives, tomatoes and this sour and sweet oil. Nikki Sensei was helping us make all of that and it was super fun. Nikki Sensei said that I had to try the sweet but sour oil. It tasted like sour watermelon essence. I asked Nikki Sensei about how to make it so the ingredients were oil, vinegar and sugar.
Kelsey: In Cooking this week I got to make pizza! Because it is the last week of cooking and gardening which means it was my last time in grade 5 you don't get to do gardening or cooking. The parents, Miss Siegert and others helped me to learn how to cut probably and keep myself safe and others.
Matthew: Today we made chilli pumpkins muffins. I mixed flour, brown sugar and sultanas. A few weeks ago I learnt how to use a knife and cut things like fruit and vegetables.
Oscar: All together I revised from last year how to use a knife and hold it safely. I also cut lots and lots of vegetables and fruits. My favourite thing to cut was carrots because I like cutting it into small pieces.
Jeremy: Today my dad and l were doing the main meal. We made pizza. It was the best time of my life when me and Josh worked together. We were grating and Josh had such a good time. That's why SAKG is the best!
