5/6 Classroom News

5/6 News

We have certainly had another busy fortnight in our 5/6 classrooms - Campaspe Lawn Bowls, Education Week, Reconciliation Week, Regional Cross Country and Campaspe Netball Tournament.  We've celebrated Education Week with 5/6A learning about Canada and 5/6B stepping into the culture of Japan.

Students spent the Education week learning about food, famous landmarks, famous people, they then created travel brochures to present at our 'Around the World' showcase. 5/6A cooked delicious Canadian Pancakes with Maple Syrup and Ice Cream while 5/6B made Okonomoyaki a traditional savoury pancake.

We had Joyce and Simone visit to engage us in some cultural Indigenous activities, along with Aunty Neva for our smoking ceremony and story and background to Welcome to Country and smoking ceremonies.

Well done to our 5 Regional Cross Country runners Billy, Ava, Tippi, Ella and Rubi who represented our school at St Arnaud on Tuesday, congratulations to Tippi and Ella who progress onto State in Melbourne in July.

Please remember to check Compass for Events as we still have a few events taking place before the end of the term. You will also notice our Camp permission and deposit has been added, please note a $50 deposit is due by 30th June to secure your childs spot on this camp. Your child has now received a camp medical form from their classroom teacher, please return this by June 30 also.

Campaspe Lawn Bowls

On Wednesday 21st  of May, 24 Grade 5/6 kids from our school were lucky enough to go to the Moama Lawn Bowls to play. It was a great day to play and 3 of the 4 teams made it to the semi final. Unfortunately not all of our teams could go to the next stage.  Thanks to all of our coaches for volunteering their time.  By Spencer W

Reconciliation Week

This week is Reconciliation Week. We made handprints and coloured them with red, black and yellow to represent the earthy colours of Indigenous People. We wrote a positive message on our hands that we could do going forward to ensure we are all playing our part in ‘bridging now to next.’ 5/6B

Regional Cross Country

On Tuesday the 27th of May our school had a group of 5 kids head to regional cross country in St Arnaud, Ava, Ella, Rubi, Billy and myself. When we arrived it was freezing! First up was Billy, he was a bit nervous. The guy came over and said on your marks GO! The boys were off and running. I knew it was going to be a close race. Next they asked for Ava’s group. Ava lined up and before you know it the girls were off and running! When the girls were off, Billy's race was coming back. Billy was coming 37th and crossed the line.  Then they asked for my group to marshall to the start line and while we were lining up Ava was coming in 12th. I looked around to the finish line and two girls just passed Ava making her 14th! Next the guy told us where we were running and then he said on your marks. GO! We were off and running. It was freezing but after 1km I started to warm up. Then it hit me, my legs were burning as I was going up the 1km hill! Passing through kids ticking them off the list, it gave me energy! Before I knew it I was at the big hill just before the finish line. I was coming 6th, then I started to run a lot faster and passed two girls. Now I was in 4th, and bamm, I crossed the line! Making it to state! I ran to Ella and congratulated her on coming 6th. By Tippi
