Dear Families,
This Sunday we are celebrating the Feast of Pentecost. The season of Easter concludes with the feast of Pentecost.
On Pentecost Sunday, the Holy Spirit worked a miracle in each of the apostles, and through them, in the whole Church. As the apostles were huddled together around Mary in the Upper Room fifty days after Jesus rose from the dead, suddenly from heaven there was the sound like the rush of a driving wind that filled the entire upper room. Tongues of fire came down and rested upon each of them and all were filled with the Holy Spirit. THIS was the difference. They received the Holy Spirit's help boldly to proclaim Jesus. The Holy Spirit came down upon them as tongues of fire — tongues because they were to speak, fire because they were to speak with the passion of burning love. And they responded. Jesus had promised that the Holy Spirit he would send would teach them all things, lead them to all truth, remind them of everything he had taught them, and prove the world wrong about sin, holiness and judgment. Then, moved by the Holy Spirit, they began to fulfill this mission. The Acts of the Apostles had begun.
Well, the Acts of the Apostles continues down to our own day. God wants to write new chapters, with each of us — and that includes you — playing an important role. The wind is still blowing. The fire of the Holy Spirit still burns. Each of us, however, needs to let the Holy Spirit in to do his work. Each of us has to allow the Holy Spirit to bring about a similar miracle in us. Too often we are more like the Apostles on Holy Thursday than on Pentecost Sunday. We come to Mass, Jesus prays for us, he feeds us with his flesh and blood, but when we leave the upper room, we basically leave Him behind, giving in to various denials, perhaps for comfort like Peter, perhaps out of fear like all the rest. We know what our mission is — to give witness to the whole world that Jesus is the Savior, that he is the truth worth living for and worth dying for — but how many times have we failed in that mission, and how many times have we failed even to TRY to fulfill it?
Come, Holy Spirit!
Fill us with your gifts,
may we know your fruits.
We come to know you in a special way at Pentecost
Following the Ascension of Jesus to Heaven.
You were already there at Creation
breathing life into all that was made.
Continue to give us life each day.
Fill us with joy and consolation
whenever we need them.
Amen.
Pentecost Sunday at Holy Family Parish
This Sunday, 8th June 2025 on the Feast of Pentecost, the Parish will once more celebrate Multicultural Day (10am Mass).
The Community will come together in all its colours and tastes from the Liturgy of the Mass to the Food Hall of the World.
Prayers are read in various languages and by our school children, hymns are sung in Korean by our wonderful Korean Community.
The Food Hall is plentiful with so much delicious food prepared and donated for all to feast on.
If your family would like to donate/make food for the Multicultural Luncheon then please drop this off in the Parish Hall on Friday 6th June (tomorrow).
Thank you to our families who have stated that they will attend this special Mass. I look forward to seeing you on Sunday at 10am.
Before School Student Supervision
We have many students being dropped off at school from 8am in the morning. Some mornings it is freezing and there are 15 students waiting on cold concrete.
Please remeber that if you have to drop your chld off before 8:30am then they must go to Before School Care where they will be safe and warm.
Just this morning, we had a group of students running toward Stephensons Road to retrieve a ball. Leaving your child unattended near an extremely busy road is putting their safety in jeopardy.
Staff are not on duty until 8:30am. Please do not drop students off before this time.
School Carpark
I have been made aware of an incident involving a pedestrian and a parent from our school a couple of weeks ago. This incident highlights how dangerous it can be exiting after our carpark at the end of a school day.
The pedestrian was walking with his dog along Stephensons Road and was knocked over by one of our family's cars exiting the carpark. This incident caused injury to the pedestrian and his dog.
If you know anything about this incident please come and speak with me.
Please be mindful of the safety of everyone when entering and exiting our school carpark.
Reconciliation Week
Our school community has celebrated and acknowledged Reconciliation Week this week.
The theme for Reconciliation week in 2025 is 'Bridging Now to Next'. We are urged to look ahead and continue to push towards a united and respectful nation.
During the week our FIRE Carriers have been working to support other students as they engaged in Indigenous Storytelling through symbols and creating Journey Sticks.
At assembly tomorrow we will have a service to conclude our Reconcilaition Week celebrations. Assembly will commence at 2:30pm.
Year 5/6 School Concert
What a night!
Congratulations to Miss Rawlins, our Year 5 and 6 staff and students for putting on a spectacular performance. The performance included acting, singing and dancing and displayed the talents of many of our students.
We are fortunate to have such a talented and creative Performing Arts teacher who can write our scripts for each performance.
We hope our Year 5 and 6 families enjoyed 'Level Up'.
Year 5/6 Camp
Thank you to our amazing staff for making the Year 5 and 6 camp at Anglesea such a memorable time.
The camp started with a rain but this quickly turned into sunshine. Fortunately our students were able to participate in a variety of outdoor opportunities.
The students looked exhausted when they stepped off the bus but they said that camp was great!
Monash City Council
Our school was invited to send some of our students to work with Monash City Council this week.
The students formed part of the Junior Advisory Group.
A Victorian Charter for Child Friendly Cities and Communities Initiative- Presented by Monash Council to the students from five schools in the Monash area.
The purpose of this visit was to consult with Monash primary school students on Council strategic plans and increase civic participation by providing an opportunity for students to ask questions of importance to them directly to Mayor Paul Klisaris.
Thank you to Lezah Lewis and Jenn Young for transporting and supporting these students.
Maths Family Night
Last night our families came along to find out how they can support their children at home with Mathematical activities. It was wonderful to see families engaging with each other and having fun with activities set up around the room.
Thank you Ms Young for organising such a great night, we even had a photo booth!
