KITCHEN AND GARDEN PROGRAM FOR 2025!

Year 6 Garden

Our year 6 crew got busy working in their patches today. They weeded, removed pests, replanted failed or harvested crops then headed out to do some gardening. We had a couple of groups who worked on some FFF propagation and planted some lambs ear, fire pokers, rosemary, sage, violets and iris. We have heaps of goodies growing now in the hot house so keep your eyes out for planting ideas and start your fresh food fair shopping list.

Year 4

Our community art project is going well and our students worked on some design concepts and and images that we can include in our art piece. We hav foraged for natural products such as fakllen leaves and bark. We also painted texture and blended colours that can use used to make collage animals and landscape. On tuesday the weather allowed M19to get out in the garden and get some vital jobs done! We had a team dedicated to fixing some stinky compost bins and we commend them for their resiliance! We fed the worms, harvested jerusulem artichokes, weeded and cleaned up fallen autumn leaves.

World Oceans Day is celebrated on 8th June every year. This years theme is Wonder: Sustain what sustains us!

Did you know that one garbage truck of rubbish ends up in our oceans every minute!! That is so worrying to read. Our ocean animals are suffering with 7 out of the worls 13 whale species at risk of extinction.

Our students were all keen to get out and pick up rubbish especially along our beaches so perhaps this long weekend you can go for a family walk to our local beaches and do a mini ocean clean up? Invite some friends to come along and make a morning of it.

We chatted about things we can do to help our worlds ocean from pollution and rubbish. Get the kids to cook their favourite dish for your family on the weekend and send up some pics.clancey.mckenzie2@education.vic.gov.au
