At Surfside we continually look at engaging our students in explicit opportunities to learn new skills in literacy, mathematics and other areas of the curriculum. We have seen continuous positive results across all of these areas. Wellbeing and behaviours also provides an important opportunity to explicitly learn new skills and strategies to apply in a variety of situations in and out of the classroom.
The Positive Classroom Management Strategies (PCMS) are a set of evidence-informed instructional practices that can be applied in any classroom setting to create safer, more purposeful learning environments that support student learning and wellbeing.
Based on the best evidence available, the department has developed the following resources to support schools in understanding and implementing the PCMSs. Surfside has been using these to support engagement in the classroom and elements of the outdoor environment to support safe and collaborative play.
One of our main elements to engage students during learning has been Opportunities to Respond. This has been integral to allow all students to be involved in the teaching and learning journey.
