This Sunday, we celebrate Pentecost Sunday, a special day in the Church’s calendar. It marks the moment when the Holy Spirit came to Jesus’ disciples after He returned to Heaven—something we remembered last week on the Feast of the Ascension.
Pentecost is often called the birthday of the Church. It was on this day that the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit, giving them the courage, wisdom and understanding to go out and share Jesus’ message with the world.
The colour red is used in churches on Pentecost Sunday. It reminds us of the flames of the Holy Spirit that came upon the disciples 50 days after Easter.
At Baptism, we receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit as we become members of the Church. At Confirmation, the Holy Spirit helps to strengthen our faith and commitment to following God.
Pentecost is a joyful celebration of God’s love and the power of the Holy Spirit, who helps us grow in our faith and share God’s love with others.
Happy Pentecost!
Last week, as part of the Jubilee Year 2025 - Pilgrims of Hope, the Catholic Church honoured families, children, grandparents, and the elderly.
Many parishes marked this special occasion during their liturgical celebrations or hosted dedicated events to bring their communities together.
In Rome, Pope Leo XIV celebrated a special Mass in front of St Peter’s Basilica with thousands of pilgrim families from around the world.
Here in Melbourne, Archbishop Peter joined hundreds of families at St Patrick’s Cathedral to celebrate and give thanks for the gift of marriage.

The Year Four students are currently preparing to receive the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time.
Please keep these children and their families in your prayers as they come closer to this special event.
Congratulations to Benjamin and Nicholas D who were recently baptised at St Michael’s Church.
Please keep Benjamin and Nicholas in your prayers as they begin their life-long faith journey.
A reminder for our school families that if you are thinking about your child being baptised, please contact the Parish Office 9401 6345 or email ashburton@cam.org.au
On Friday 27 June, the whole school will attend the 10:00 am parish Mass to celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
As part of this celebration, our school will present to the parish the donated items collected to support those in need within our local community.
We kindly ask for non-perishable items that are within their best-before date. Examples include:
We also welcome donations of basic toiletries, such as:
All items are stored in an accessible cupboard at the Parish House.
The local St Vincent de Paul group (Vinnies) ensures people in need know how to access these supplies easily.
Donations can be sent to school with your child and kept in their classroom until they are collected each week.
Thank you for your continued generosity and support.
Pope Leo XIV has continued the monthly prayer intentions.
The month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and this is reflected in the prayer intention for the month of June.
Please try to find some quiet time in your busy day to pray the Pope Leo's Prayer Intention for the month of June. Thank you.
That the world might grow in compassion
Let us pray that each one of us might find consolation
in a personal relationship with Jesus, and from his Heart,
learn to have compassion on the world.
Amen
