From the Classroom

Grade 1/2 Underwater World Clay Hanging - The Final Product!

Finalising our learning this week - how wonderful are these underwater world masterpieces! Once dry, we painted them with acrylic paint and added a hanger made from pipe cleaners and beads.

Grade 3/4 Clay Monsters

The Grade 3/4 students have been working hard the last 3 weeks to create a clay monster using the pinch pot method. Students designed their monster in their art books, before making them out of clay and finally painting them with acrylic paint. They showed a range of hand building and joining skills using the scratch and slip method. I love how interesting each monster is, showing individuality and creativity! Well done Grade 3/4.

Grade 2 News

What a wonderful Term 2 we’ve had in Grade 2! It has been a busy and exciting time filled with hands-on learning, creative writing, and energetic movement. It’s been such a joy to see the students grow in confidence, curiosity, and creativity.

One of the highlights in spelling this term was learning about contractions. To help us master them, we transformed into contraction surgeons—complete with gloves, masks, and surgical tools! Students performed “contraction surgery” by cutting and stitching together words like do not into don’t and I will into I’ll. It was a fun and memorable way to build our understanding—and the results were a huge success!

In writing, we’ve been creating our own versions of Possum Magic by Mem Fox. Students have loved imagining new adventures featuring their own characters, set in familiar Australian towns and filled with delicious Aussie foods. From fairy bread in Melbourne to lamingtons in Hobart, these stories are uniquely creative and proudly Australian. I can’t wait to see the final published books—they’re going to be something very special!

In maths this term, we’ve been deepening our understanding of place value, learning to read, write, and make four-digit numbers with confidence. We’ve also been practicing counting backwards, which has been a lot of fun—especially when singing one of our favourite songs, Count Back Cat! To show off our skills, we created colourful number lines using our count back knowledge.

This week we also had an amazing time participating in gymnastics. The students were full of energy and enthusiasm as they practiced skills on the trampoline, bars, and beam, as well as learning to flip, balance, and cartwheel. It’s been a great way to build coordination, strength, and confidence—plus it’s been a lot of fun!
