Spotlight on Learning

Galilee Community

As we approach the end of Week 6 we reflect on the amazing learning our students have made. Our students have been entering the classrooms safely, respectfully and ready for learning. Prayer time has been a beautiful time where we share our own prayers to God and Jesus. Our prayer tables remind us of Jesus' presence in our classrooms and in our hearts.  We keep the Santiago family in our thoughts and prayers at this time.

Next week, Week 7 of Term 2, we will be learning and engaging in the following:

Religious Education Focus

This week, we are learning about the Trinity. The Trinity means that there is one God, but God has three parts: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

We are reading the story of Jesus’ baptism, where all three parts of God are there. God the Father speaks from heaven, Jesus is being baptized, and the Holy Spirit comes down like a dove. This is an important story as we get ready for Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit came to Jesus’ friends. To help us understand the Trinity, we can think of a triangle—it’s one shape, but it has three sides, just like God is one, with three parts.

English Focus

We will continue to learn Stage 3 sounds, with a focus on 'qu' and 'z'. We will be building words using these sounds, such as yep, leg, net, end, at and in. We will continue to read words with Stage 1 and Stage 2 sounds. Please check the reading pouch for the sound sheet every Monday.

Mathematics Focus

We are learning to partition numbers up to 10 in a variety of ways. We will use concrete materials such as blocks and counters to explore number combinations and will apply our understanding in different mathematical contexts to deepen our learning.

Social and Emotional Learning

We are finishing up our focus on Problem Solving, and to celebrate our learning, we will be working in small groups on a fun and creative challenge. Each group will build a tower using only spaghetti and playdough. This activity encourages us to collaborate with others, think critically, and use pro-social behaviours such as sharing, listening, and supporting one another. Once our towers are complete, we will proudly share our creations on Seesaw for everyone to enjoy.

Auslan Focus

This week in Auslan, students are learning how signs can be moved in the signing space to show where an action is taking place. By adjusting the location of a sign, students can communicate more clearly and accurately in Auslan. For example, signing "sit" on the left side might mean someone is sitting over there, while signing "run" on the right could show where the action is happening.

Wellbeing

We are aware that both students and teachers process difficult news in different ways. Please refer to the email from Kate Dourley on Monday 26th May. We are working with the students to carefully navigate conversations and questions that come from our students each day. If you notice that your child is not coping, please reach out to the Foundation teachers to discuss how we can further support, particularly at this very sad time.
