Year Five

Spotlight on Learning

Bethany Community

Dear Bethany Families,

This week, our students came together to celebrate our School Mass with great reverence and joy. They sang beautifully and demonstrated deep respect throughout the celebration.

The theme of the Mass, “There are other sheep that belong to me” (John 10:16), reminded us of Jesus’ inclusive love and His call to welcome and care for all. As a community, we reflected on the message of Jesus as the Good Shepherd—guiding, protecting, and valuing each one of us as part of His flock.

Next Week we are learning about...

Religious Education Focus:

We will continue to examine our Religion inquiry question "Big fires start from small sparks" by investigating the Gifts and Fruits of the Holy Spirit and how these can be outworked in their lives to produce good fruit.

English Focus

We will continue to read a William Wordsworth poem called I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud and complete literary tasks related to it. For writing, students will be creating their own poem inspired by the beauty of nature. They will be learning how to use interesting adjectives, sensory details, personification, and alliteration to bring their writing to life.

Mathematics Focus

We will begin learning about  Probability. Students will be exploring the idea of random chance events (also known as fair trials), where all outcomes are equally likely. As part of this learning, students will be guided to list all the possible outcomes for various chance experiments and learn how to write the total number of outcomes. They will also express the probability of certain events occurring as a fraction.

Auslan Focus

Next week in Auslan, students will be learning how to sign:

  • Can I have a pencil please?
  • Can I eat?
  • Can you help me please?
  • Can you repeat slowly?
  • Who has finished?
  • I have finished

Social/ Emotional Learning Focus:

Next week, students will be learning how to practise self-calming strategies. They will also explore how these strategies can positively impact their mood and help them manage stressful situations more effectively.
