Belonging, self worth and confidence

It is a busy time of year with winter sports in full swing and the Hamilton Eisteddfod front of mind for many of our student musicians and dancers. Ben Crowe, in demand professional mentor and coach,  publishes a weekly Mojo newsletter. In last week’s, he spoke about the 1993 Disney movie ‘Cool Runnings’

The movie focuses on a Jamaican bobsled team and their ambitions to compete at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympic Games. In one scene, their coach sits with team member Derice, who’s laser-focused on winning gold, believing that then, and only then will this be enough. Coach Irv looks at him with empathy and understanding and shares a quite profound truth -“A gold medal is a wonderful thing, but if you are not enough without it, you will never be enough with it.”

Crow talks about the moments we find ourselves searching for belonging, self-worth and self-confidence in results or outcomes. He makes the point that this scene isn’t about bobsledding or any kind of competitive sport or artistic competition, it’s about the vulnerable and courageous journey we all go on to discover that we’re imperfect, and full of struggle, but that we’re unconditionally enough. We don’t ever have to do something to be someone. Our achievements, experiences, wins and losses are all part of the adventure, but they don’t define us.

I wish all our Hamilton Eisteddfod competitors all the very best and hope they enjoy the experience of taking part.

Junior Hockey

  • Under 13: College Hawks defeated College Eagles 5-1.

PowerCor Works - North Boundary Rd

The intersection between North Boundary Rd and Hensley Park Rd will be closed each morning for the coming weeks. North Boundary Rd will also be intermittently closed further west as part of the works.

Junior School parents can drop off their children as normal at Myrniong, but they will need to turn left on the exit onto North Boundary Rd and then back along the dirt portion of McArthur St.

The North Boundary and Hensley Park Rd intersection may be open by afternoon pick-up on some days.
