Yesterday afternoon we had the pleasure of welcoming Board members, staff, past and current members of the Parents’ and Friends’ Association, and former Head of Middle Years Julia Winter Cooke, for the opening of the Middle Years garden and play area project. The garden and play structure are designed to provide spaces for students to clamber, and socialise as they grow. It was with gratitude for long and dedicated service to the College that we named the area the Winter Cooke Garden in Julia’s honour.
The sign at the top of the new seating area reads:
Julia Winter Cooke was a teacher at College from 1987–2021 and Head of Middle Years for 16 years.
Julia prioritised people and human connections. This garden, named in her honour, seeks to do the same.
The Winter Cooke Garden is the realisation of a vision provided by the Parents’ and Friends’ Association. The project is largely funded by them, and by extension by all of you who have supported P&F fundraising over the last few years. The smiles of students as they rushed to explore the new play structure validated that vision, and suggest that the Winter Cooke Garden will be a much-loved and much-used part of the Middle Years area for many years to come.
