Year 10

Term 4 was a very busy term for Year 10 students, and wrapped up with a bang.... or should I say Bounce!

Across the term, students participated in multiple incursions including from Headstart - to explore resume and cover letter writing skills as well as the employability skills workplaces value support with SBAT's (School Based Apprenticeships & Traineeships). They also participated in a number of health and wellbeing incursions, where our School Nurse Lauren Pilakis returned to the college to deliver content regarding sexual decision making, safe sex, contraception and STI's as well as an information session on Alcohol and Other Drugs to examine the different types, effects and potential risks and harms associated with use. These incursions provided students with current and correct information relating to sexual health including safe sex, consent and the law.

In addition to this, Youth Lawyer Laura Brooks visited the college to provide a Q&A session to students about topics of their choice including Victoria Police and PSO powers, age of consent, workplace laws and becoming legally dependent, to name a few. Students found this to be of great value and were given details of a number of support services should the need arise.

Whilst students worked very well across the term to complete curriculum content across multiple subjects, they also had accessed cooking classes, which saw them prepare and enjoy pancakes and hamburgers with toppings and fillings of their choice.

The cohort came together to celebrate and embrace personal and educational growth by attending Bounce in Heidelberg, where all students in attendance thoroughly enjoyed the adrenaline rush prior to being dismissed for one last time in 2024.

We wish you all a safe and relaxing break and look forward to working with you all in 2025.

Year 11

As we come to the end of the school year, the year 11s have been working diligently and enthusiastically to complete coursework throughout the year.

Throughout the term, both classes implemented great community engagement initiatives to raise awareness to support a cause of their choice.

11B were able to raise donations and awareness towards drug addiction, whilst putting together a morning tea for the college.

11A ran a whole school pyjama day, whilst collecting donations for the Salvation Army to raise awareness for kids in foster care.

These were a huge success for many around the college. The students are to be congratulated on the way they have conducted themselves throughout the year, especially during their FareShare excursion, where they were able to demonstrate great teamwork and leadership skills whilst preparing food for the vulnerable.

Erin, Paris and I have had the privilege of watching these students grow and flourish into young adults, we wish them nothing but success and happiness as they finish their studies at Peter Lalor Secondary College.

It has been an absolute pleasure and the year wouldn’t have been so successful without the support of this cohort.
