Nut Aware

HPS is a Nut Aware School

An allergic reaction or anaphylaxis can occur through ingestion of nut products, cross contamination, breathing nut dust in the air and touching nuts products or surfaces that have been exposed to nuts.

A school that identifies itself as Nut Aware, usually asks for the parents of every child, whether they are allergic to nuts or not, to consider peanut and tree nut alternatives when planning individually packed lunches.

Since this condition can be life threatening, we are asking all members of the school community for their help in minimising the risk to these children by:

  1. Avoiding giving children nuts or nut products in their packed lunches.
  2. Avoiding giving nuts or nut products or snacks / bars containing nuts for recess snacks
  3. Avoiding supplying the school with cakes or food items containing nuts (or traces of nuts) for birthday celebrations.
  4. Heidelberg Primary school does not allow students to share food.

Foods that are labelled “may have been produced in a factory handling nuts and cannot be guaranteed to be nut free”, will be allowed at school.

We thank you in advance for your co operation and support regarding this matter.

Recorder News

Happy New School Year and Happy Lunar New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed a restorative holiday break after a highly successful 2024!Congratulations to the HPS recorder players who participated in the end-of-year assembly performance of the song 'Auld Lang Syne' to farewell the students, families and teachers who were leaving the school at the end of the year. I received many compliments on your behalf from those in the assembly audience who deeply appreciated this musical tribute to old friends. Special thanks go to Ms Heather Gordon for introducing this Scottish song, traditionally heard at the stroke of midnight on Hogmanay (New Year's Eve) to bid farewell to the old year.

On Tue. 4 and Wed. 5 February 2025, instrumental recorder lessons and ensemble rehearsals commence, so it's time to make sure we're ready for the start of our music making for the year.Thank you to those families who have submitted enrolment expression of interest forms for recorder lessons in 2025. If you have not sent your form back, please do so as soon as you can --applications are closing on 31 Jan. and will be put on hold on 1 Feb. to allow for completing next week's timetable.

A special note to families of students in Grade 1...

Did you know that students become eligible to join the recorder program at HPS once they reach Grade 1?

HPS Instrumental Recorder Program 2025

Enrolment Expressions of Interest are now closing

The recorder program at Heidelberg Primary School aims to help parents provide their children (grades 1–6) with an opportunity to learn a musical instrument within school’s thriving musical community. Students are encouraged to develop a wide range of skills and knowledge including reading and playing music notation, recorder technique and music appreciation as well as successful habits of learning – through the study of music, students can develop the habits of life-long learning and build self-confidence as they practise risk-taking and gain resilience.

…and all students interested in commencing recorder lessons at HPS

If you may wish to begin recorder lessons in 2025 -- whether you're in Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 -- please register you interest by emailing fionawalters@ioville.net.

Thank you and happy music making!
