Assistant Principals' Report

Dear HPS Community,

Welcome to our newsletter item for this week.

Welcome Back

We have had a great first week back. There was much excitement in the air on Wednesday morning as the students gathered outside their classroom. We have noticed the students are very focussed in their learning as they begin to connect with their new staff and connect or reconnect with their peers. This week the focus in the classrooms has been our Connect Create Explore program. The main purpose of this is building a sense of community and connection, also understanding school expectations and processes. Our Foundation students have also had two wonderful days of school and are settling in really well.

School Captains

This week our school captains attended our Foundation Tea and Tears/ Tissues event in the Hall after the families had dropped off the students at the classroom. Ava, Alex, Lachie and Ruby did an amazing job greeting our families and talking about their role in the school.

Lunar New Year

This week many of our families and staff celebrated Lunar New Year.

The 2025 Lunar New Year ushers in the Year of the Wood Snake, a time filled with deep cultural meaning and significance. In the Chinese zodiac, each year is associated with one of the 12 animals, and 2025 is dedicated to the Snake. Known for its intelligence, mystery, and ability to transform, the Snake's qualities are enhanced by the Wood element. This year symbolizes growth, renewal, and adaptability, encouraging people to reflect on their paths, embrace change, and seek personal growth. Here's a closer look at what the Year of the Wood Snake means, how it impacts your life, and the rich cultural practices surrounding the celebration.

Have a lovely week ahead.
