Welcome Back
Welcome back to the school year of 2025! We hope that you had an amazing and relaxing holiday break. During the first week of the term students were focusing on Learn2Learn where they revisited the school values of respect, responsibility, kindness and growth and the classroom expectation for the year. We have all had an amazing start to 2025 and cannot wait to see what the year brings.
Meet the Teacher
(Mrs Rassool)
Grade 5 would like to thank Steph Brigandi helping 5E have a great start to 2025 while they await the arrival of Mrs Rassool in week 3 and we wish her all the best for the arrival of her baby soon. Grade 5 would also like to thank Miss Hill for starting the year with 5F.
Knowledge Building
In Grade 5, we learn many of the components of English in a 2-hour block. Because of this, we don’t stop reading after 1 hour or do writing for 1 hour. We read and write all throughout the block. We learn about how to write narratives, persuasives, information reports but writing may look like writing words some days, sentences the other and paragraphs the other times. Knowledge building incorporates grammar, reading fluency, writing fluency, handwriting, and reading comprehension into a cohesive 2-hour lesson. For the first 6 weeks of term 1 our knowledge building will occur through the fantastic text The Wild Robot.
Mathematics
Our first unit for Maths in term 1 is Data Representation. In this 8-lesson unit, students transition from basic data collection and graphing to more complex data interpretation. A key focus is on interpreting dot plots, data type identification (nominal, ordinal and discrete), mode calculation, data distribution, line graph interpretation, and using spreadsheets.
Reminders
- Just a reminder that in Term 1, students need to be wearing a TRPS school hat during recess and lunchtimes.
- Student journals will not be being sent home this year. Students will write their reading in the journals when they arrive at school each day.
