Year 8 Reflections

When I first started at MITS I didn’t know anyone. I was nervous and homesick at first, then I made some friends that I was comfortable around to talk and to play with. They made me feel like I was at home and I even made some friends on the footy field as well. It was so much fun getting to make friends from different places and getting to know where they are from and also getting to know about their family back home.

My two years at MITS was one of the best choices in life that I have ever had because here at MITS they can give you the best chance. I started schooling here at MITS back in 2023 as a little girl from the NT. Back then I didn't know how to do my times tables. After a term at MITS back in 2023 I wanted to go back home because I didn’t think that I could be as smart as the other kids and that made me feel really low. After having a talk with my mother she told me that “ You are just as good as the other kids Quintayha, believe in yourself,” so after that small talk with her I told myself that I could do it and now I’m finishing Year 8, going on to Year 9 at Kingswood!

When I first started MITS I felt nervous, but when I started making new friends then it got better. In the middle of term one I started to feel homesick and that's when MITS got a little harder for me. I started to call my family more often so I would feel better and I did start to feel better. When I started in Year 8 I felt scared because after Year 8 we would be going to a new school and all of my friends will be going to different ones. But throughout the year I focused on spending more time with them.

My journey here at MITS has been one of the most unforgettable experiences with a mix of challenges. Within a year I have learnt so much academically, socially and emotionally. Year 7 and 8 brought some ups and downs but I managed to be okay after all I've been through. I started weak and have ended strong through my whole time here in Melbourne. When I first came I used to be very shy and would always cover my face but as I started to show some courage I started being more out there in life, like reading in front of huge crowds and starting to make new friends in my new school and old schools. MITS has taught me lots of new stuff and with a lucky opportunity to transition from Darwin to Melbourne I have made a good choice in life.

Starting at MITS was difficult but being here for 2 years I am very proud of myself. After getting to know the boys here we became very good mates and that helped me stay longer in MITS. Getting the chance to come down to Victoria and play footy got me feeling very excited and I started making new mates in the team. This year I was awarded 3rd best & fairest in the YJFL and 3rd in my club. My journey at MITS was good just because I had my mates with me and they got me to stay at MITS .

MITS is the best boarding school because it has a lot of opportunities. Schooling at MITS is difficult because it's far away from home and it's hard but you'll get through it. When I first came to Melbourne I only knew a few people and I really missed home. But I have made lots of friends and tried new things like surfing, catching a train and travelling around Melbourne.

My journey at MITS started at the start of 2023. I came to MITS a bit shy but ready to make friends, so once we all started talking to each other we all started to open up and be more confident. As it got to the middle of the year I loved being in Melbourne but also missed my family a lot. When graduation came I was a confident little girl who was ready for the 6 week holidays after all the hard work and effort I put into 2023. Soon 2024 came. I was so excited for Year 8 and Pathways Schools I couldn't wait!!! Finishing 2024 now I am so proud of how I've grown and how this journey has helped me with everything. My journey at MITS was amazing and if I could do it again I would!
