From the Chaplain

“My commandment is this: love one another, just as I love you.  The greatest love you can have for your friends is to give your life for them. And you are my friends if you do what I command you.” John 15:12–14

This is a bible verse that is often read out in an ANZAC Day service. There is no greater sacrifice than giving your life for someone and that is exactly what many people did for Australia in war times.

Jesus also laid down his life for us, as he calls us ‘friends.’  This is how Jesus wants to relate to us.  Not as always pointing the finger at us and punishing us. Jesus wants to have a relationship with us like we do with a friend.  He wants us to tell him our troubles, praise him in the good times and leave our life in his capable hands.

God of love and liberty, we bring our thanks this day for the peace and security we enjoy, which was won for us through the courage and devotion of those who gave their lives in time of war.  We thank you Jesus for being the ultimate sacrifice and dying for our sin, making a way for us to be reconciled with God.  Thank you for your peace that surpasses all understanding.  Amen.
