From the Deputy Principal
ANZAC Day
Standing at the top of Mount Clarence at 4.00am with our School Captains, Maddie Warren and Louis Cosh yesterday, made for a time of quiet reflection and appreciation for the service personnel who form the defence forces for Australia. At the Dawn Service, watching very little people snuggle in blankets, visitors from overseas appreciate the natural beauty of this place and families of those who have served also reminded me about how lucky we are to enjoy living in this beautiful and peaceful part of the world.
Louis read beautifully a letter which had been penned by Lieutenant Edward Lionel Bigg who served with the First Light Horse Regiment. He was a grazier from NSW and sailed on the First Convoy from Albany in 1914. He was one of the last group of 75 to evacuate Gallipoli. It was a very touching tribute and a reminder of the human impact of war.
Later in the day our Pipe Band and a group of our students and staff joined the Anzac March down York Street to join the service in Anzac Peace Park.
Whole School Interhouse Cross Country
Wednesday was a fabulous day to celebrate what it means to share a whole school event. Students from Pre-Primary to Year Twelve participated in the Whole School Interhouse Cross Country event, which was run over various distances, depending on students' age. It was heartwarming to hear students cheering each other on, to see the hugs of congratulations and the care for students who didn't feel great when they crossed the finish line having pushed themselves to their absolute limit. It was also a time for reflection as our Year Twelves once again participated in an event which would be another 'last' for them here at GSG. Thanks to family and friends who came to join us to cheer students on. Congratulations to our students and a big thank you to the many staff who collaborated to make this a fun and fulfilling day.

Ulster Road works advice
Please note the information below provided to the school from the Water Corporation regarding works on Ulster Road, commencing in June. This will impact some bus services to the school and we will keep in contact with Water Corporation to provide you with appropriate updates as the work progresses.
You may notice signage along Ulster Road over the coming week, regarding an upcoming Water Corporation project. Water Corporation will be commencing replacing a wastewater pressure main along Ulster Road in early June 2024. The work will require partial lane closures on Ulster Road, and detours. The work will progressively move along Ulster Road. The detours and traffic management may result in additional travel time.
There may be some impacts to the bus services which utilise Ulster Road. Water Corporation are working with the local bus provider to determine impacts to the bus services which utilise Ulster Road. This may involve some detours to the bus services. Once these have been determined they will be communicated to the community. Further details on the project can be found at the Ulster Road Wastewater Pipeline Replacement Webpage
During late May, further details and map on the lane closures, timings, detour routes will be provided on the webpage. The webpage will also be kept up to date throughout the Project with timings and related information. You can also subscribe for regular project updates on the webpage. We thank you for your patience and understanding during these essential works to reduce future leaks and breaks.
