Principal's Report
Principal’s Report 10th May
I’m sure there was plenty of disappointment today when we announced that the Color Run was to be postponed. Although the weather cleared a little later in the day, the water lying around and the general wetness underfoot would have made it a difficult day for all. We will reschedule the colour run to Thursday 23rd May, and we will cross our fingers that the weather gods treat us a little better next time.
Walk Safely to School Day
Despite the weather, the day started with lots of movement and music as part of National Walk Safely to School Day! Thanks to Simone Smith and Lisa Howells for all of their hard work and boundless enthusiasm in organising days like this. We have always tried to make Lyndhurst Primary School a place where children love to come, developing and looking after their wellbeing as well as their learning. It’s days like this that bring the children together and help them build relationships with each other, with the educators in our school and with the school environment itself.
Prep Enrolments 2025
Next week, we begin the process of preparing for our new Prep enrolments for 2025. Tours will be running throughout the week, run by our Assistant Principals and me. If you know of anyone who is thinking about enrolling a prep for next year, or you have a child who will be joining us in 2025, contact the school office to get tour times. Lyndhurst Primary School is currently under an enrolment management plan, as directed by the Regional Director. As such, we are only able to accept enrolments for Prep for 2025 whose main residence is inside our school zone. To check the school zone, go to https://www.findmyschool.vic.gov.au/
Partners in Learning – Walker Learning P-2
The next in our Partners in Learning series is a document outlining the ‘why’ and the ‘what’ of our play-based learning program that happens each morning in our Prep to Year 2 classrooms. This program, which has been running in our school since the very beginning, follows the latest in brain science on how young students learn. You know as parents that, at home, your children have been learning through play since they were born. It’s how they experience and make sense of the world. Play continues to be a major source of their learning through to, at least 8 years of age when, at Lyndhurst, the students move into a more inquiry-based curriculum. The document linked below will give you the science and the common sense around our Walker Learning P-2 program and help you to understand why it continues to be a key pillar in our teaching and learning structure. At the top of the document, and above, you will see our @Lyndhurst logo with the word “Pedagogy” highlighted. Pedagogy is a term that refers to the method of how teachers teach, in theory and in practice. It describes how our teachers plan, shape and deliver learning to our students.
