Week 3, Term 2

STEM

Grade 1 and 2 

Students will sort and classify animals based on their features and the habitat in which they live. Students will investigate one animal in depth to discuss its size, speed, diet etc.  

 

Grade 3 and 4 

Students will compare different life cycles of animals from different habitats to find similarities and differences. They will discuss different animal features they notice for different habitats. 

 

Grade 5 and 6 

Students will learn about ecosystems and how everything within these systems relies on everything else to maintain balance. Students will investigate and create food webs for different ecosystems. 

Visual Arts

Prep

Students will be building on their work in Term One around the art element ‘line’. This week they will practise drawing different types of lines on strips of paper and bending, folding, and twisting them to create a line sculpture hat. 

 

Grade 1 and 2

Students will be creating a special gift for their Mum or special person for Mother’s Day. 

 

Grade 3 and 4

Students will be creating a special gift for their Mum or special person for Mother’s Day. 

 

Grade 5 

This week students will begin creating a rainstick, painting their tube in three constrasting colours. They will then be thinking about designs and shapes inspired by local Indigenous artists to paint on top next week.

 

Grade 6

Students will be creating an Indigenous inspired artwork using white pencils on black paper. They will practise drawing organic shapes inspired by nature, experimenting with patterns and lines, working from the centre of their circle and moving towards the edge.

 

Physical Education

 

Prep PE

This week, students will be introduced to the fundamental movement skill of leaping. They will be encouraged to keep their eyes forward and maintain balance when landing. 

 

Prep Sensory

Students will participate in rotational activities with the focus of improving their core strength, balance and ability to work in a small group.

 

Grade 1 and 2

While learning the fundamental movement skill of leaping, students will be encouraged to keep their eyes focused forward, take off from one foot and land on the opposite. They will continue to review running, throwing and catching during our rotating games and activities.

 

Grade 3 and 4

We will continue to learn the key skills required for the game of soccer, and participate in a modified game called ‘soccer skittles’.

 

Grade 5 and 6

Students will refine the key skills of soccer, and be encouraged to apply these skills in a game situation.

 

Performing Arts

🎵 Prep

Students will be exploring beat patterns through body percussion, percussion instruments and movement. They will listen to First Nations music, paying particular attention to clapping sticks, to inspire their learning. Students will read informal pictorial notations to play beat patterns.  

 

🎤 Grade 1 and 2

Students are exploring ostinato (a continually repeated musical phrase or rhythm). They will use an image of Wurundjeri land to inspire the creation of their own ostinato. Students will be able to use movement, body percussion and words to create their repeatable rhythm.

 

🎶 Grade 3 and 4

Students are exploring how stories are told through drama. They will investigate the elements of situation and role through mime activities. They will be encouraged to make these elements clear in their work so that the audience can understand their performance with ease. 

 

🎭 Grade 5 and 6

Students are experimenting with how to tell stories with the newspaper puppet they have created. They will be exploring how breath, weight/tension and focus can help bring their puppet to life. Students will also reflect on the successes and limitations of their puppet to inform their future creations.
