Celebrating the growth in our wonderful children on each learning level...
Our excursion to the Collingwood Children’s farm was a huge success for all of our Preps. You could see the children’s obvious excitement and a few nerves when they first stepped into the goat pen to give the animals a friendly pat. Some of the highlights including getting to pet and feed some adorable guinea pigs, walking through a fairy forest, and spotting a magnificent peacock strutting atop a nearby roof. The excursion came at the perfect time as we have just begun our farms unit in our English lessons, and the experience helped provide a real-world connection to support our students’ learning. A huge congratulations to all our Preps for their wonderful efforts on their first big excursion!
In Year 1 our students have been working hard at developing their mathematical skills! Maths Invaders is an educational game designed to help students improve their math abilities in a fun way. The game combines elements of traditional arcade games with educational content, making it an engaging tool for learning and practising various mathematical concepts. Students face math challenges that they must solve to progress through different levels, with the difficulty increasing as they advance. Maths Invaders is only played at school, four times a week.
This week, our Year 2 students learnt about the purpose of persuasive writing in English. They enjoyed listening to a story called 'Hey, Little Ant' which told the story of a boy who was deciding whether to squish an ant or not. At the end of the story, the author left it up to the reader to decide what happened. Our students decided on their own point of view and their reasons for this. Have a read of a selection of writing pieces to see if our Year 2 students can persuade you to squish or save the ant at the end of the story.
This week in Science, students have been learning to investigate plant growth by identifying traits of different plant species. During our science lesson, students were able to explore our school environment to find a range of plants and identify their characteristics. They have been learning about the ways in which the environment can impact each plant and their traits. Luckily the sun was shining for these nature detectives!
Last week in Maths, Year 4 students were learning about data collection and ways to represent and interpret data. The students learnt about the features of bar and column graphs and the importance of presenting data accurately. At the end of the sequence of lessons, the Year 4's collected their own data and presented it using a column graph. We found out lots of information about the most popular colours, cars, soccer players, hobbies and much more!
On Tuesday 14th May, Year 5 headed off on our adventure to the Melbourne Zoo. Students engaged with their wild side as they explored the grounds. Highlights of the day were spotting the red panda, seeing the snow leopard and collecting stamps along the Dino Trail. During the talk by a zoologist, students were models of exemplary behaviour as they listened to the speaker and engaged with enthusiasm as they learnt about habitats and conservation. Students who volunteered to dress up as an animal during an organised activity brought an extra element of fun to the outing and put huge smiles on our faces. A huge thank you to all the parent volunteers who participated in the excursion. Without you, these days would not be possible. Check out the photos from the day!
