Middle School update

by Ms Eleanor Smith, Head of Middle School

Welcome back to Term 2! We are excited for all the activities happening this term in Middle School!

Year 9s have just completed a REACH Peer Dynamics workshop. Students were given the opportunity to connect on a deeper level, gain perspective on how they all experience different circumstances, but very often feel similar things--whether that be judgement from others, sadness that you can’t quite pinpoint, butterflies for a crush, fear of failure or being misunderstood by others. The workshop explored the impact that individual behaviours, attitudes, and judgements can have on others.

Our Year 9s are focussing on ‘Our People’ this term during homegroups. We hope to continue developing a sense of belonging within the classes and strengthening peer relationships within the cohort.

Year 9 Home Groups A to E will be participating in the City Experience Camp this Term! We are looking forward to seeing our students develop their resilience, teamwork, and investigative skills as they explore the City of Melbourne and citizenship concepts. This camp aligns with our Geography curriculum.

Our Year 10s are developing their life skills in Home Groups and Year 10 program classes each week. Students will be developing their goal setting, time management, study habits, finance, and communication skills. Students will be getting ready for their first exam period in week 10.

Our Year 10 program classes will be completing their First Aid qualifications and developing their driving skills at METEC in the coming weeks.

As the weather is cooling down, we have started hosting ‘House Hot Chocolate Mornings’ in the Middle School. Students can check Teams for updates about which day of the week their House is allocated. This is a great opportunity for students in Years 9 and 10 to meet other students in their House, while having a free hot chocolate before school!
