Junior School update
by Mr Nic Barca, Head of Junior School
Term 2 has commenced with great enthusiasm! We launched the term with assemblies held in the Hall. In Year 7, our emphasis was on cultivating effective study skills and maintaining organisational habits in preparation for the onset of homework this term. A gentle reminder that utilising diaries on a daily basis is crucial for recording homework assignments and staying on top of due dates.
Meanwhile, in Year 8, we continued our exploration of gratitude, encouraging students to express appreciation for one another in proactive ways. Mr Oaten also spoke about being an upstander and how this could be done in various aspects of school life.
Looking ahead, we have two exciting incursions scheduled:
Lastly, I reached out to select student leaders to provide reflections on their experiences from Term 1 and the beginning of Term 2. I extend my sincere gratitude to Julien and Ryan for generously volunteering their time. Their insightful reflections are provided below:
Year 7 Term 2 Update – By Ryan B, 7D
Recently, Term 1 has been amazing with the fantastic Year 7 orientation camp at Camp Manyung, considering the high quality of the clubs and events. In my experience, I have participated in Photography and in my opinion, it is probably one of the best clubs for technology enthusiasts like me. We had a few all-school events including the school cross country and the swimming carnival which was amazing to see people showing their enjoyment and talents for swimming and long-distance sprinting.
We, as the class captains, organize major assemblies and homegroup classes occasionally. Homegroup classes run every Monday for about 20 minutes where class captains occasionally run activities about positive relationships, developing trust, leadership and much more to be ready to learn and have a positive mindset. This is brilliant to have such a positive start to your high school, especially considering you will be here for the next six years! Finally, my name is Ryan and I would like to thank you on behalf of the class captains for creating a fantastic atmosphere for the first term of the year.
Year 8 Term 2 Update – By Julien Z, 8Z
After a restful break, the Year 8 students have settled back into school. We are glad to have some upgrades; the quad has gotten some renovations, adding a wooden layer to most concrete seats.
In week 1, many students joined the Parent Teacher Interviews and got valuable feedback from our teachers. More CATs are yet to come, and much more knowledge is to be gained.
The Year 8 class captains have been working on improving home group sessions by introducing more fun activities. Our goal is to make this mini-period more engaging.
On April 22nd, the class captains and other leadership roles at school were honoured to represent the school and help with this year’s School Open Afternoon. We really enjoyed showing the prospective students and their parents around BHHS.
Please note that in week 3, our school will welcome BHHS 2024’s production, Urinetown! Best wishes to all the students who will be performing on the stage!
Last but not least, the school and our year level have many fun events upcoming in Term 2, such as Athletics Carnival, which we are all really looking forward to.
