What a wet start to the season! It is hard to believe the amount of time we have missed already this season. Some teams are yet to play together. Others have trained but not played and some have played, but not trained. Fingers crossed the heavens stay clear and we can get some training in and a full round of fixtures this weekend.
Last weekend, when all games were cancelled, the boys in the AFL team were the only fixture to go ahead. In what can only be described as wet and slippery conditions, the boys adapted to the moisture on the ground and played a hard, determined game of football. Unfortunately, they went down in a close game, but their attitude and determination cannot be faulted. Well done boys on displaying the fighting spirit of St Patrick’s.
After the Winter trials and team announcements, I mentioned that the first three rounds of the season were an extension of the trial period. As there has been very little in the way of play across all codes, this period will be extended to Round 5 this season. This should give all the boys the opportunity to take to the fields and highlight their playing skills.
The training schedule has been updated and now includes the changes to 6A and 6B Football squads, along with the addition of goalkeeper training. Please make sure that you and your son(s) are familiar with the days and venues they are training at. A reminder that all boys need to be collected promptly after training whether it be at the College or off site. Boys should not be waiting at school half an hour after training has concluded. There is very little supervision at this time and poses an issue for the safety of the boys.
On Monday, we had a number of students out representing the College at CIS Rugby League and Hockey trials. In difficult conditions after all the rain and for the boys trialling in Rugby League, coping with a late venue change, all the boys performed well and were pushing for selection. With large numbers present at each trial, making the CIS teams was going to be a challenge. Congratulations to the following boys for their selections into CIS teams:
With the sun out early this week and a positive forecast for the remainder of the week, we keep our fingers crossed for the grounds to be open for the weekend. I look forward to our first full round of Winter sport this weekend.
