Cross Country

An unusually dry morning for Cross Country this year!  Thank you to the parents who attended and supported this event.  We were warmed by the enthusiastic welcome students gave the returning runners after each race, congratulating them and supporting those who were spent. Thank you also to the teachers and Steph Webster for her organisation of the event. Please see the sport section of this newsletter for a comprehensive report from Tom Chapman.

Curriculum Day

Friday 26 April was a student free day, and while there were no students at school, our staff took part in a day of professional development. Stephen Christofakakis from the North Eastern Wellbeing and Inclusion Department, and our own Maddie Muir, led us through the implementation of the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Framework (SWPBS) which we will be rolling out throughout our school over the coming weeks and months. See the wellbeing section for more information. After lunch our learning continued with a focus on Mathematics, facilitated by Lisa Cuthbert, our Education Improvement Leader (EIL) and Robyn Davis.

Although we missed our students on Friday, feedback from our teachers was positive with all staff engaged in professional discussions and workshops that will benefit our teaching and learning programs.

Prep 2025 Enrolments – Parent Information Evening

Prep 2025 enrolments are now open. The information evening for our prospective preps is this Thursday,  May 2.  The evening will begin at 6:30pm in the prep rooms. Parents who have attended this session in recent years do not need to – but are most welcome to join us. Families are asked to register their interest in attending the evening by contacting Karen in the Office. We ask our current families to pass this information on to their Kinder contacts, friends and neighbours. If you or someone you know requires assistance with the new online enrolment process, again please contact Karen.

Congratulations

After 18 years together it seems there is a wedding on the horizon for the Brooks/Yap household! Congratulations to Emily Brooks and her partner Andy on their recent engagement. We wish you every happiness.

SunSmart

As we enter the colder months of the year, the students are reminded to keep their Solway hat in their school bags. Whenever UV levels reach 3 and above, all students must wear a hat when playing outside. The SunSmart App updates the daily UV level and notifications can be set up. From May – August, students will be notified if the UV has reached 3 or above and will be expected to wear their school hat for any outdoor activity.

Solway Values raffle

Congratulations to the winners of our first Solway Values Raffle for 2024. Students were awarded raffle tickets for displaying acts of kindness;

1st – Charlie Prep B

2nd – Lucy 2D

3rd – Emma 1D

This term we are looking to award students for their responsibility.

Thank you to Keith from the Bendigo Bank for supplying and awarding our prizes of vouchers for The Leaf Bookshop in High Street.

Mother’s Day

Our Mother’s Day stall will be held in the hall on Friday 10th May.  Please see the article in this newsletter for information on purchasing gift tokens.  In addition to this, the students will be showing their appreciation at our school assembly on the Friday afternoon.  We would love it if you are available to come along.

I wish everyone a wonderful Mother’s Day, whatever you are doing and hope that between the sporting and social events of the weekend, you find some time to do something you enjoy.

Year 7 Transition

I can’t believe we are at that time of year again, but here we are. Transition forms were emailed to parents last week and are due back at school next Friday 10th May. All students, regardless of their choice of independent or government school, need to have a completed form returned. Please come and see me if you require any further information or would like to chat all things High School.
