GALS Interactive STEM Program

On Wednesday, 24th of April, ten girls from Grade 6, in partnership with Deakin University begun their journey of understanding, researching and brainstorming some possible solutions to industry problems.

At workshop one, the girls met at Deakin - Waurn Ponds where they were tasked with thinking more of a problem solver with team activities that allowed them to think like an entrepreneur. One activity was to gain feedback from a ‘customer’ and design the ideal school bag. The girls also had to problem solve alternative ways in which a coat hanger could be used. Finally, they were introduced to the 13 problem cards, form small teams, define, investigate and begin to think of possible ways to solve their identified problem.

Over the course of the term the girls will work in small teams to follow a design process where they will define their problem, explore, create ideas and prototypes, test and work towards the culmination of the program where they will present their solution to the GALS network as well as their family, friends and school community.
