Numeracy

Welcome

Hello Vermont families and welcome to the Numeracy section of the Nurlendi News! Here is where we will share any exciting resources, games or ideas that you may find interesting and enjoy using at home with your children.

Nerdle

https://nerdlegame.com/

Nerdle is a daily numbers game where you need to solve the equation in 6 turns. Using the process of elimination and coloured clues, it’s a great game that challenges your thinking!

Lego Barrier Game

This game is called Lego Barrier. It’s a great game of following directions and using mathematical concepts to build the same Lego structure.

Concepts covered: Location and transformation

Equipment: Matching set of Lego blocks (i.e. whatever blocks one player has, the other player needs an identical set), hardcover book (or anything else that can be a barrier)

Good questions to ask while playing:  “What words do you think will be helpful for this activity?”  (This is a great question to ask prior to playing.); “Can you say that again another way?”; '“What would you do differently next time you played?”

Year 5 – Area and Perimeter

Mr Condron asked the Year 5 students to design a new vegetable garden for his house, composing of regular and composite shapes. Students loved the opportunity to apply their knowledge of area, perimeter, addition and multiplication to convince Mr. Condron to choose their design!

Maths Parent Videos

The students at Vermont Primary School have developed a large set of instructional videos which are designed to help parents work with their children on Maths at home.
