Principal's Report

By John Mooney

At this week’s School Council, the need to continue our Building Modernization Program was discussed.  The architects of our building plans have produced artist impression drawings of what our new Junior School Wing and Performing Arts/Gymnasium Centre would look like.  These very impressive drawings will be circulated in the coming weeks.

The Victorian State Budget for 2026/27 was released this week.  Our Victorian Government is to be congratulated for the enormous investment being made in the area of Education.

Emerson School benefits in many ways in the 26/27 Budget.

  1. Continued participation in the existing intensive Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) program.

  2. Continued participation in the Transport Assistance Program that greatly benefits our students in travelling to and from school.

  3. Continued participation in our high quality Victorian Pathways Certificate program for our Senior School students.

  4. Continued participation in The Glasses for Kids program to ensure optical acuity for students.

  5. Continued expansion of our School Breakfast Club program.

Our School Council also discussed the difficulties parents are experiencing in enrolment procedures and funding approval. In some cases, it is taking between 6 to 12 months to receive enrolment approval and funding allocation.

Our School Council wishes to achieve a Funding and Services Agreement that will achieve:

  1. Automatic enrolment.

  2. An annual audit of enrolment accuracy.

  3. A guaranteed budget with inbuilt saving efficiency.  In other words, the funding of every student could save up to $9,000 per child in per capita funding.

  4. The continuation of making outstanding adjustments to our curricular programs to ensure that every student blossoms and unlocks their potential.

The Council is hoping to achieve a Funding and Service Agreement as soon as possible.  There are already several Specialist Schools who have Funding and Service Agreements.  Our School Council wants the same approval at Emerson School.
