From the Acting Head of Sport

Well done to all our sporting teams who have had a great start in the ISA Winter Competition. This week we have majority of our teams at home and it would be wonderful to have the wider BMGS crew around to support them.

Just a few reminders regarding Winter Sport:

Arrival at Bus Stop

Students are required to be at the bus stop at least 10 minutes prior to the listed departure time found on the Sport Fixtures.

Please note that the time provided is a departure time, not an arrival time. Buses must leave promptly and will not wait for late students to ensure teams arrive at fixtures on time.

If you are not going to be on the bus, please email your sport MIC prior so they can communicate this relevant information to the staff member on the bus. Without this knowledge, the bus is delayed in departing and impacts us in arriving at the venue on time.

Uniform Requirements

All players must be in full Winter sports uniform when boarding the bus. Hoodies and trackpants that aren’t BMGS uniform are not permitted. If you need to purchase items, please visit the Uniform Shop.

The Firsts' team are to wear their Full Winter Uniform on the bus and are to change at the venue.

CIS Swimming

Congratulations to Deane Sweaney (Year 8 Ziele) who recently competed at the CIS Swimming Championships as part of the ISA Team. He competed in the 200m Individual Medley, finishing 15th overall and achieving a massive 7 second personal best to his time.

Well done Deane.

Well done to Thomas Lord (Year 12 Ziele), Jack Lord (Year 10 Ziele) and Henry Sutton (Year 8 Ziele) who recently were selected to referee Finals and Grand Finals for the Basketball NSW Waratah Western Junior Basketball League. Achieving this feat came as a result of hard work and a time commitment to officiate at games over 3 weekends at locations such as Katoomba, Lithgow, Wallerawang, Bathurst, Leeton, Narrandera, West Wyalong & Griffith.

Hockey players wanted

BMGS has a long history of hockey as a sport! If you would like to continue playing more hockey, develop your skills, game strategy, and have some fun, Blaxland Rovers Hockey club Under 14 team is looking for some more players.

Both boys and girls aged 11-14 are welcome to join up and play. This is a small competition part of the Nepean Hockey Association. Games are Sundays at the Nepean Hockey fields at Western Sydney University, Kingswood. This year the association has heavily discounted juniors fees of $70 for the season (NB Hockey NSW membership is mandatory and is ~$170). The season runs until late August.

Training is Tuesday night at the same location from 6-7pm. Whilst highly encouraged, training is not mandatory.

Netball

1sts vs. Oakhill – Win 39-36

It was a fantastic start to the season, with a full squad available and ready to perform. The team arrived well-prepared and confident in their ability to deliver.

Oakhill proved to be the strong competitor we anticipated, playing disciplined netball and making the most of their home court advantage.

We opened the game strongly, creating valuable turnovers and maintaining disciplined structures down the court. Our defensive pressure made ball placement and shooting accuracy challenging for Oakhill, while our centre pass and second-phase play consistently delivered clean entries into the circle. This momentum continued through the second quarter, earning us a strong lead at halftime.

The third quarter brought tactical changes from Oakhill, requiring us to adapt quickly. The team responded well, adjusting defensively to limit midcourt transitions into the circle while maintaining composure under pressure.

The final quarter was tightly contested. Starting level, the team dug deep and showed resilience and determination across every position. Sustained defensive pressure created crucial turnovers, and our attacking play became more purposeful, with decisive drives creating scoring opportunities.

We secured a narrow but well-deserved win in what was an excellent and competitive opening match to the season. All players took the court and contributed positively in their roles. The team demonstrated respect, sportsmanship, and composure both on and off the court. A very pleasing performance to start the year—congratulations to all.

2nds vs. Oakhill – Win 48-13

This game was a strong start to the season for the team. The players worked cohesively, communicated effectively, and consistently supported one another throughout the match. All areas of the court functioned in tandem, with every team member playing an essential role in ball movement, defence, and attack.

In attack, communication was strong, allowing the team to find and utilise space effectively through a balance of long and short passing options, resulting in efficient scoring. Defensively, the team worked well together to shut down opposition attacking movements and successfully intercept the ball.

There was no single standout player, as everyone contributed equally to the team’s performance. There are many positives to take from this game and plenty to build on in terms of confidence and efficiency as the team continues to develop over what is shaping up to be a strong season.

Inters vs. SACS – Loss 27-20

BMGS Inter A’s made a confident start against St Andrews, taking an early lead through strong teamwork, quick ball movement, and accurate shooting. Defensive pressure was applied well, helping the team stay in control during the opening stages of the game.

Unfortunately, the match was briefly interrupted by a fire alarm, which disrupted BMGS’s momentum. Once play resumed, St Andrews returned with increased intensity and began to close the gap, eventually taking the lead. Despite this shift, BMGS continued to compete strongly, showing determination, resilience, and effort across the court.

Although BMGS went down 27–20, it was still a very positive performance. The team showed great potential, and with their strong connections and consistent effort, they are shaping up for a promising season ahead.

Juniors vs. Cranbrook – Win 11-4

It was an early start, but the team was very eager to get the season underway. For some players, this was their very first game of netball, which made the excitement and enthusiasm even more special.

As the game progressed, it was great to see the team grow in confidence and settle into their positions. We continued to improve throughout the match, beginning to string together some excellent passes down the court and into the shooting circle, where our shooters were on fire.

Defensively, the team worked hard across the court, creating plenty of turnovers and taking some fantastic intercepts and tips. Everyone showed great effort and determination, supporting each other and having a go.

We were thrilled to secure our first win of the 2026 season. A fantastic start with hopefully many more exciting games and victories to come!

2nds vs. Oxley – Win 37 – 35

This game tested the seconds. With a bit of a rocky start, it took the team some time to find their rhythm and play their own game. Oxley were a good team, with height and speed influencing the strength of the game they were playing.

With some changes in positions, and figuring out what dynamics worked best the score board started to go up. A key takeaway was the team’s effort and persistence in the third quarter. This quarter is known as the grand final quarter for a reason; and they encouraged each other and they worked together to make that their strongest quarter of the game.

There is lots to take from this game, and from here we will keep growing as a team to improve for the next game to come after our bye next week.

Inters vs. Oxley – Loss 25 – 21

BMGS fought hard in a tight Intermediate netball match against Oxley Grammar, with the scores close for most of the game. It was a competitive contest throughout, with both teams showing strong passages of play.

Despite a great team effort and determination across the court, Oxley Grammar managed to pull ahead late to secure a 25–21 win.

Everyone worked hard from start to finish and should be proud of their effort. There’s plenty to build on from this performance, with the team showing great commitment and potential moving forward.

Zoe Long

Juniors vs. SACS – Loss 13 – 9

It was a great effort from everyone in the team, despite going down 13–9. The improvement from week one was fantastic to see, with a much better understanding of rules and positioning leading to more effective transitions down the court.

The team started strongly and took control early, showing confidence and teamwork. The third quarter proved challenging, with the opposition gaining momentum, but the team did not give up.

A highlight was the fourth quarter, where the team fought back brilliantly, scoring seven goals and finishing the game with determination and energy.

Overall, it was an excellent display of effort, resilience, and teamwork. The progress already shown is very promising, and the team should be proud of their performance.

Round 1 Football Reports

First XI Boys

BMGS defeated St. Pat's College 2-1

We came away with a strong 2-1 win away from home in a very hard fought game. From the start, the team worked hard off the ball and tried to outwork the opposition across the pitch, which helped us stay in the contest even when momentum shifted throughout the game. We opened the scoring through a quick breakaway after winning the ball back in midfield, with the fast transition catching their defense out and giving us an early 1-0 lead, and Sam Taylor his debut goal for the first XI. They responded well not long after, equalising through a quality cross from out wide that was met with a very good header into the corner. Despite conceding, the team stayed composed and continued to defend strongly. Our keeper, Luke Gibson, made an excellent save during a difficult period of pressure and the back line did well to deal with a number of dangerous attacks. The winning goal came late in the game after a good passage of buildup play forced a mistake from their defenders. Oliver Eastern managed to get in behind and drove forward before squaring the ball across to Sam again, near the right edge of the box, who lifted the finish just over the keeper and under the crossbar to put us ahead 2-1. The final stages of the match required a lot of defensive effort and discipline, but the team held firm under pressure and managed to see the game out for a hard-fought win.

First XI Girls

BMGS were defeated by Barker College 7-0

Starting out our season with Barker 1sts, a team consisting entirely of rep players, made for a tough game, and despite coming out of the game with a 7-0 loss, I would like to congratulate all the young players on our team for remaining positive and fighting for the ball until the very end of the game. Even with such a strong opposition, we found ourselves with a few attacking opportunities, with Leila, Ashley and Ivy putting on a very strong attacking play which almost won us a goal. Overall, while it was a tough game, I believe our season can only get better from here.

Second XI Boys

BMGS defeated St. Pat's College 4-1

St. Pat's opened the scoring with a screamer from halfway, sailing just over Toby's head. Grammar quickly answered back after with a beautiful solo goal from Thomas. With the first half drawing to a close, Grammar had a chance to jump in front, but Armando couldn't get the job done. As the Seconds went in for half time, an inspiring team talk from Thomas kicked off an exceptional second half. Thomas grabbed his first assist with a pass to Eli that put Grammar in front 2-1. Shortly after, he grabbed his second, finding Aiden at the top of the box, who carefully slotted it into the bottom right corner. A third assist from Thomas found Issak who scored a goal of the season contender from outside the box, curling it over the St. Pat's keeper from outside the box. As full time arrived, Grammar left St. Pat's College 4-1, grabbing their first win of the season.

14 Boys

BMGS were defeated by St Pat’s College 0-1

Our team put a strong effort in for our first game of the season, a tight match that ended in a 1–0 loss.

We created several promising chances through fast runs down the wing that kept their defence under pressure. Oslo was outstanding in goal, pulling off multiple crucial saves to keep us in the game. Our defensive line stayed solid, shutting down several dangerous attacks and blocking key shots. Both teams battled hard in midfield, keeping the match level deep into the second half. With about five minutes remaining, the opposition scored from a well‑placed corner. Despite the result, the team showed great determination and resilience. Good job boys!!!

Round 2 Football Reports

First XI Boys

BMGS were defeated by Redlands 1-2

We unfortunately lost 2-1 away from home in another close and physical match. The game was very competitive throughout and required a lot of work from the entire team. Injuries became a major factor as the match went on, with players dealing with blisters, hamstring issues, and heavy knocks. Because of this, several players were forced to stay on the field for longer periods than they were used to, and others had to move into unfamiliar positions to cover gaps. We went down 1-0 after an unfortunate mistake at the back left their winger one on one with our keeper, and they finished the chance well. To the team’s credit, the response was immediate and positive. We managed to equalise soon after through a good attacking move starting from the left, with a well weighted pass into Xavier Stevens, giving him space just outside the box before he calmly slotted the ball into the bottom left corner to make it 1-1. The second half became increasingly physical, with some frustrating decisions for both teams that made it difficult for the game to flow consistently. Despite this, the team continued to compete hard and looked capable of taking something from the match. Unfortunately, right near the end of the game, a missed handball in the buildup led directly to their final attacking chance, which they converted. At the time, we had three players temporarily off the field for a variety of reasons, leaving the remaining players exhausted and some out of position while trying to hold on. It was a difficult way to lose after such a determined effort from the whole side.

First XI Girls

This week showed an improvement on Round one, however BMGS were defeated this weekend against SACS. Despite the score, second half score line was only 1-0, an incredible improvement from the previous half in which five goals were scored against us. The second half held highlights such as one of our players almost scoring a goal from a penalty, sadly hitting the crossbar instead of the net. Finally, I would like to thank Bronte, who stepped up as keeper for the game as our regular keeper forgot their shoes, for remaining strong and saving countless goals.

Second XI Boys

BMGS defeated Redlands 1-0

Feeling confident after Game 1, Blue Mountains Grammar came to Macquarie Park to play Redlands. Right off kick-off, Blue Mountains pressured the Redlands defence, launching several attacks with no end product. Thomas, the MVP of Game 1, found himself at the end of Armando's through ball but was unable to place it past the Redlands keeper. Shaking off the disappointment of the last attack, a shot from outside the box found itself hitting the hand of a Redlands defender. However, Blue Mountains played on, scoring the goal. But as they began to celebrate, they turned to the referee who was pointing to the penalty spot. Armando, who's shot won the penalty, was tasked with taking the kick, following a series of deliberation, combined with mind games from the keeper. He stepped up, a few stutters, and in an instant, the ball had crashed against the crossbar.

Blue Mountains were unable to score the rebound, and the first half concluded. Minutes into the second half, Grammar took the lead. A series of Blue Mountains passes found Fabian who gave the final pass to Aiden, capping off the first and only successful attack of the game. However, Grammar continued the pressure; a curling shot from Thomas had the Redlands keeper fully stretched to tip it onto the bar. In the game's dying minutes, Armando found himself just in front of the halfway line. Disappointed after the penalty miss, he skimmed past 3 defenders with a spin before slicing the ball across the field which found Emerson at the 6-yard box, though he was unable to place past the keeper. The full time whistle is blown and Grammar go home 1-0 with their second win of the season.

16 Boys

BMGS defeated Redlands 2-0

The Under 16 boys were away at Redlands this week. We had a succession of corners about midway through the half Calvin’s delivery went right across the 6 - yard box, in front of the keeper, all it needed was a touch, however we just couldn’t reach it. Our next corner was headed over by Tom. Milo was linking play between midfield and attack and combined really well with Tom, Javi and Calvin. Tom found himself on the edge of the box, decided not to shoot, instead, beat three players and poked the ball into the roof of the net, 1-0. A similar situation again and Tom slotted the ball into the bottom left corner. 2-0. Henry and Charles provided some respite for our hard - working midfielders, bustling about and being very effective in the middle of the pitch. We came into halftime 2-0 up. The message for the boys was to conserve energy but not be complacent and try to push for more goals, because we thought we could. Redlands came out in the second half intent to work our keeper and that they did. Issak pulled off some fabulous saves in the opening stages of the second half and was far busier. Angus and Jack worked really well as Centre-Back’s to bring some calmness and quell the Redlands surge. We pushed to score more, Tom, Javi and Calvin all coming close. In the end a quiet second half, a 2-0 win, clean sheet and a solid performance from the boys. They showed desire and togetherness, pushing through despite significantly less subs than the opposition.

A huge thank you to the boys from the 14’s (Henry S, Charles T and Harry P) that filled in the ranks, the result wouldn’t have been possible without them sacrificing their own game.
