From the Head of Junior School

We have much to celebrate and share after a busy few weeks in the Junior School. As always, I am thankful for the staff who put their efforts into providing the best, well-rounded, engaging learning possible for students and the families and volunteers who support us.

Mothers’ Day

Both Wentworth Falls and Springwood campuses had successful Mothers’ Day events with food, gifts and time together. A special thanks to David and Jess Elliott, as well as Frances Sidarous and Sarah Di Falco who organised such great events. I trust the recipients of the cards, chocolates, gifts and more were welcomed.

Stage 3 Science

As part of stepping towards high school Stage 3 take part in lessons in the Senior School with Ms Stammer, who teaches Science. Getting into the labs, working with safety equipment and dissecting fish are all part of the steps that maximise the opportunities we have as a Prep – Year 12 school.

Stage 2 Excursion to the Art Gallery of NSW

Year 3 and 4 had a great time at the Art Gallery of NSW as part of their work linked to the Archibald Prize. Students completed their own portraits that were entered as part of the Young Archies. They were also able to have time in the Key is Under The Mat art park installation under the gallery, which was a lot of fun.

Mathematics Association NSW Birdwatch

Learning is at its most powerful when it connects context and real-life, live situations. At the moment, some of our students are gathering data around the number and types of birds around the campuses and using it to inform future learning. They have moved birdbaths, acquired trap cameras (used to catch photos of animals on trails) and weather stations to help with these projects. This is the sort of work that has students excited for learning, discussing their thinking and representing ideas and data in different ways.

David Attenborough Turns 100

Early Learning have had a great time celebrating all things David Attenborough. There are so many ways we can explore his work through geography, writing, classification skills and all the mathematics that can be linked to the number 100. We have been reflecting on the impact he has had on conservation efforts, which are particularly pertinent in our corner of the world.

Thank you everyone for the ways you continue to support our school, teachers and students. Have a fantastic fortnight ahead.
