RE Learning in 5/6KM

In Year 5/6 KM we have been learning about the parable of the Great Feast in which Jesus told his disciples a story designed to teach them about the Kingdom of God.

The Parable of the Great Feast

15 When one of the guests sitting at the table heard this, he said to Jesus, “How happy are those who will sit down at the feast in the Kingdom of God!” 16 Jesus said to him, “There was once a man who was giving a great feast to which he invited many people. 17 When it was time for the feast, he sent his servant to tell his guests, ‘Come, everything is ready!’ 18 But they all began, one after another, to make excuses. The first one told the servant, ‘I have bought a field and must go and look at it; please accept my apologies.’ 19 Another one said, ‘I have bought five pairs of oxen and am on my way to try them out; please accept my apologies.’ 20 Another one said, ‘I have just gotten married, and for that reason I cannot come.’ 21 The servant went back and told all this to his master. The master was furious and said to his servant, ‘Hurry out to the streets and alleys of the town, and bring back the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.’ 22 Soon the servant said, ‘Your order has been carried out, sir, but there is room for more.’ 23 So the master said to the servant, ‘Go out to the country roads and lanes and make people come in, so that my house will be full. 24 I tell you all that none of those who were invited will taste my dinner!’”

The parable reminds us that the Kingdom of God is a place for everyone regardless of:

We reflected that as followers of Christ, we are called to invite people into the Kingdom of God and to share the good news of Jesus. Some ways that we can do that are:

  • Asking people to come into the Kingdom of God
  • Sharing our faith, Christain holidays and culture
  • Learning more about God through reading the Bible.
  • Sharing Jesus’ story and the lessons he teaches us
  • Treating others fairly
  • Not being judgemental and giving everyone a chance
  • Praying for others, the world and ourselves
  • Being selfless like Jesus modelled to us
  • ‘Go forth and spread the word’ like Father Sang reminds us at Mass

“Blessed is the one who will eat at the feast in the Kingdom of God.”

Sunday Gospel

The liturgy of the Catholic Church provides a framework for reflection which is used by Catholics throughout the world. Each week in the Newsletter, you will find the Sunday Gospel as well as some discussion questions to have with your child/ren.

The eleven disciples set out for Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had arranged to meet them. When they saw him they fell down before him, though some hesitated. Jesus came up and spoke to them. He said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, make disciples of all the nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to observe all the commandments I gave to you. And know that I am with you always; yes, to the end of time.’

Discussion Questions

1. Who do you know who has gone away and you don’t see very often?

2. How do you keep in touch?

3. Jesus went back to his Father but he is still with us. How do we keep in touch with Jesus?

4. We show Jesus is with us by the way we live. How will you show others that Jesus is with you this week?
