Year 6 Market Day

Last Friday our Year 6 students ran their annual 'Market Day' event at the school for the students in all other year levels.

Market Day is a project that the Year Six students work on that has four aims;

  • to develop their leadership and organisation skills
  • to learn about financial literacy and build authentic concepts of supply and demand, profit, overheads and other entrepreneurial ideas.
  • to raise money for their yearbook and graduation
  • to help the rest of the school have fun

The enthusiasm, hard work and creativity of our students was hugely impressive and the event was a massive success. The various different stalls, from the smoothie bike to the chocolate toss, from the haunted house to the incredible disco were well attended and all of our younger students had an absolute ball.

I would like to thank all of our Year 6 students who stepped up and made this happen, to the Year 5/6 teachers, particularly Amy Salter, Mel Borella and Stephanie Hamilton who provided the necessary close support and troubleshooting to ensure that the stalls were ready to operate.

I also want to thank all of our families for supporting the event by sending some cash to school for your child to spend. We are still counting the coins collected but have clearly raised enough to pay for a great graduation ceremony and an amazing yearbook in term 4 of this year. I think it is wonderful for our students to feel the satisfaction of working hard, raising money and 'earning' their end of year celebrations.

Tax-Deductible contributions to SKiPPS

SKiPPS operates two Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) funds which allow parents and community members to make tax-deductible donations.

As we approach the end of the tax year, we ask parents to bear us in mind if they are looking to receive the tax benefits that charitable donations can bring.

We have two funds - a School Building Fund (which is then used to maintain and upgrade our school buildings) and also a School Library Fund (which is used to build and maintain our school library). All donations would be gratefully received.

If you wish to donate please contact Nova, our Business Manager at nova.whitehead@education.vic.gov.au. To find out more about the tax benefits of donating to a DGR fund, please speak to your accountant.

If you have already donated, your payment receipt can be found on Compass, under the Course/Confirmation section.
