Last Friday 13 of our students competed at the the Armidale Diocesan Cross Country carnival in Barraba. 550 students from all over our diocese came to show their very best long distance running skills. It was a fun filled day and I was very pleased to hear such positive comments coming from our students. Even whilst they were out running their races students reported back how supportive their competitors were, cheering each other on and high fiving as they ran past each other!
Our students were very competitive with many achieving results in the top 20 of their age groups. This is very impressive as there were over 100 students in most age groups. St Joey's students never cease to impress me, setting goals and achieving their personal best results. Go team Joey's!
We have some very exciting sporting opportunities taking place in Term 2. Students will start the term with athletics skills training focusing on sprinting, shot put, discus and high jump (for primary students only). Sessions from weeks 1-6 will be school based on Wednesdays. In weeks 7 & 8 students will travel over to our local athletics fields, Golland Fields, for the opportunity to practice running using the track lines and long jump.
These sessions, which have been gained through the Sporting Schools Grant Funding, will be held here at school on Fridays from the 31st of May through until the 28th of June.
Students will wear their sports uniforms on both Wednesdays and Fridays through this time frame.
Session times are as follows:
Group 1: 12:15pm – 1:15pm (Years 5/6)
LUNCH BREAK
Group 2: 1:50pm – 2:30pm (Years K-2)
Group 3: 2:30pm – 3:15pm (Years 3-4)
Our annual school athletics carnival will be held on Thursday the 27th of June (week 9) at Golland fields. We will be looking for parent helpers to assist in the running of the carnival so please mark this date in your calendar.
