Green Machine Updates

Green machine has continued to work hard across the term. We have prepared the soil in our baths and barrels with fresh school compost and planted some new fruit trees in our orchard and some winter veggies and herbs. We look forward to harvesting some of our crops in the coming months.

Succulent Sale

A few weeks ago we held a Succulent Sale under the orange shelter after school. We prepared about 30 succulent pots using cuttings from our Green Machine garden but it sold out in about 3-4 minutes and everybody that was at the back of the line looked really sad because they couldn’t get any succulent plants. We raised lots of money, $148 from customers, so we will use that money for our future projects.

With all the money we made during the succulent sale, the green machine leaders have decided to use the money to buy some smaller gardening tools to start a junior gardening club. This will go from years prep ~ 3. During the junior gardening club which the Green Machine Leaders will run (stay tuned for more information), we will do smaller gardening projects taking some of the strain off Green Machine. Some of the projects we might do are; cleaning up the bamboo forest, weeding the barrels and bathtubs, picking rubbish up around the school and making sure the nature play space is in order.

Each week Green Machine hosts the nude food competition. We encourage everybody to bring nude food to keep our school GREEN (and clean)! We encourage students to bring nude food every single day even when the nude food competition results aren’t being collected. We also have a rule that if you bring in rubbish you have to take it home, and no rubbish outside in the yard so that we can hopefully reduce waste in our beautiful school.

A way parents can help out with our nude food goals is to not use single-use plastic as often and try to only use multi-use containers. Could you also ask your children to take home the single-use plastic and not dispose of it at our school? Thanks so much for your support with this!

We would like to remind all pupils not to litter and not waste food, energy or water. We look forward to continuing our work to make our school more sustainable.
