Principal's Report

Rohan Cooper

Welcome to our final newsletter of autumn and whilst we have had a pleasant stretch of weather lately, that has certainly turned coming into the weekend. Please ensure that your child is appropriately clothed for the cooler weather and monitor for any symptoms of cold and flu with the change of season. Happy and healthy students are students who learn best!

National Reconciliation Week

Following National Sorry Day, remembered across the nation on Sunday 26th May, we have focused on the theme of, ‘Now more than ever’, as a part of National Reconciliation Week for 2024. Led by our ‘Reconciliation Action Plan’ (RAP) Team, our students have had the opportunity to reflect on the meaning of reconciliation, in both what has already been achieved in Australia and what we can continue to do to make positive change.

This week I have been privileged to see how year levels across the school acknowledge country to begin their day. Our staff also acknowledge country to begin staff meetings, with a particular focus on learning about an indigenous person who holds personal significance to the nominated presenting staff member.

School Review

As has been mentioned in various forums, we have our DE-mandated school review at the beginning of Term 4. As a part of this, we are collecting feedback from students, staff and families in regard to our performance against the previous school strategic plan, encompassing the years of 2020 to 2024.

Thank you to the parents who attended one of the two planned community feedback sessions, held both in and outside of school hours, last week. In addition, we have formulated a survey for our community to complete. If you have not done so already, please take a few minutes to complete the survey here.

As a part of this, we are also asking for input into future planning for the school and in defining a new school vision, with an accompanying set of values. The survey provides an opportunity to provide input into these areas as well. If you prefer to reach out to me directly regarding either of these items, don’t hesitate to contact me via email here, or see me on the gates in the morning and / or afternoon.

School Communication

Effective communication between school and home is critical in being a well-organised and high-functioning school. With the introduction of Compass and a new Newsletter format implemented in the last twelve months, we believe this has been an ongoing area of improvement for us. As we continue to refine our practices, you may have noticed that communications are arriving from the school at 3:00pm daily. This is a deliberate strategy to ensure our communication is predictable to our families; the more consistently we communicate, the more predictable we become, reflecting a well-organised school environment.

School Facilities Sub-Committee

I would like to invite members of our community to join one of our School Council Sub-Committees, the Facilities Sub-Committee. This group will meet a couple of times each term, with a particular focus on effective resourcing to provide the best possible physical environment for our students. This will include looking at how we can improve our buildings and grounds.

If you are interested in joining this group, please email me directly here.

Thanks for your ongoing support and keep doing your best.
