Week 4, Term 2

The Math's Space

Early Stage 1 have been learning all about whole numbers. They have been ordering numbers and thinking about what comes before and after a given number. They used playdough and numicon shapes to create a range of different numbers and then shared their creations with friends. Well done ES1 you are doing some amazing Maths work!

Stage 1 have continued with their focus on Addition the last few weeks. There have been some fabulous hands-on activities using Numicons, cards and dominoes to allow students to engage in using a range of different strategies to solve addition equations. Educators recently engaged in some professional development on using the Numicon resources and it is wonderful to see students already reaping the benefits.

Stage 2 have continued with their learning of inverse operations and have now extended this to subtraction. There has been some great mathematical language being used by the students to explain and justify their answers along with a range of strategies to solve equations.

When would you use decimals, percentages or fractions? This is the question that Stage3 have been exploring. Percentages can be a tricky concept to understand and the students have been working incredibly hard to build their understanding and persevere with challenges.

Combined Stage 1 & Stage 3 Science

Stage One have been learning about how all materials have a purpose. Last week, we specifically identified that materials can be changed or combined. We were lucky enough to have some Stage Three helpers come into our classroom on Friday to help us use some materials to create slime. We were able to observe the changes that occur when our materials were combined.
