Upper Primary Formal Uniforms – Policy update

Currently, boys in Stage 3 & 4 are able to wear their long pants or shorts at any time of the year. Please note the school policy has been updated in 2024 so that girls are also able to choose which formal uniform they wish to wear throughout the year depending on weather and preference. There are no longer set months where certain formal uniform must be worn.

Please note that girls can choose from the following options on their formal uniform days. Options must be worn in their entirety. We trust this update will provide more flexibility to student comfort whilst learning.

Girls Formal Uniform

All items from the following 3 options are compulsory school issue only:

Option 1*

Dress**

Navy crew socks

Option 2*

Shirt (long or short sleeve permitted)

Skirt**

Choice of navy tights or navy knee-high socks (applies to the skirt only)

Option 3*

Shirt (long or short sleeve permitted)

Navy trousers or navy shorts

Navy crew socks

*Any of the above options may be worn with or without the formal cable knit jumper.

Optional school issue:

Tie optional when student is wearing a long sleeve shirt.

The following items are not school issue:

Shoes – plain black ‘leather style’ lace up or plain black ‘Mary Jane’ style.

Note: Any of the three options may be worn at any time throughout the year providing it is complete: e.g., anklet socks cannot be worn with the skirt and tights/knee high socks cannot be worn with the dress or shorts.

**Note: Both skirt and dress must be of modest length to allow for comfortable learning and play – a guide is no shorter than 5cm above the knee when kneeling.

School Absences

Please don't forget, if your child is going to be absent from school you will need to notify both their classroom teacher and the front office. This can be done via email. The front office email is: admin@gspv.sa.edu.au

This helps us ensure that your child is safe and accounted for, and that we have the correct information regarding their absence.

ICAS Online Competitions

Dear Stage 3 & 4 Parents/Caregivers,

Each year at Good Shepherd Lutheran School Para Vista, we offer an opportunity for our students to participate in the ICAS Online Competitions. These are academic competitions that give students the chance to test their higher order thinking and problem-solving skills in Digital Technologies, Maths, Science and Writing. These competitions will take place in August this year

Participation is optional. This is an opportunity for students who wish to challenge and extend themselves.

If your child is interested in this opportunity, or if you have further questions, please get in touch with me via email  (jared.grierson@gspv.sa.edu.au) or come see me in person. You can find me in the office near the library.

Cut-off date for registration is July 15th so make sure you get in touch before that date if your child would like to participate.

Assembly Award Winners

At Good Shepherd, we strive to create a community that lives the values of Love, Optimism, and Creativity.

Love: We love because God first loved us. We respond by extending respect, compassion and care to each other.

Optimism: Optimism cultivates expectation and inspires confident action towards a positive future. It promotes courage, integrity and strength to overcome fear of the future or regret for the past.

Creativity: Creativity involves breaking out of established patterns to look at things in a different way. Good Shepherd Lutheran School is a community which stands in awe and wonder at the mystery of God’s creativity. In response we strive to shine in individuality, to love and serve God and people using our gifts and talents.

Recognising their efforts in living these values, we congratulate this week's award winners for Love, Optimism, and Creativity - Mikayla, Jayden, and Mya

Growing Faith at Home

This Sunday is a special day in the church calendar. We celebrate Pentecost!

We recognise this as the birthday of the church, when the Holy Spirit came in an amazing way, empowering people to speak in other languages and share God’s love with others.

This had me thinking about a particular YouTube project that went viral a few years ago, when we were separated from one another. ‘The blessing’, sung in many different languages, became a unifying experience as hundreds of people sang God’s blessing to us.  Please click on this link to listen to the rendition! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d48-qbcovVY

Have a look at this week’s Growing Faith at Home resource for some questions and ideas to try out with your family.
