Writing

CURRICULUM FOCUS

In Writing this week we will begin learning how to write a procedural text. We will be focusing on the structure of a procedural text (title, ingredients/materials and steps/method).

VOCABULARY

Procedural text- a piece of writing that lists instructions to complete a task e.g. a recipe, How to make a rocket etc.

Title- the name of the procedural text or topic.

Ingredients/Materials- food, paper plates, plastic spoons, knife etc needed to make or complete the procedural text.

Steps/Method- the instructions we need to follow to complete the procedural text.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Choose an activity to do at home (e.g. brushing your teeth) or maybe cook/make something together such as something as simple as a milkshake.

Then support your child to have a go at writing one or all of the parts of the procedure needed to complete the activity/recipe.

E.g.

How to brush your teeth

Materials:

Toothpaste

Toothbrush

Cup

Water

Steps:

  1. Get your toothbrush and toothpaste.
  2. Put the toothpaste on the toothbrush.
  3. Brush your teeth.
  4. Wash your mouth out with water.

*Please remember your child might only be able to record the first sound or some sounds for words and that is okay! We are still beginning writers 🙂
