Premiers' Reading Challenge participants are now 80 days into the Challenge. 226 students have read 1,729 books with 24 students already completing the Challenge! Our star reader, who is in Year Three, has read 69 books so far. Keep up the great work everyone – you still have 110 days to go!

The Children’s Book Council of Australia has announced the shortlist for the 2024 Book of the Year Awards. The six finalists in each of the following categories, Early Childhood, Picture Book, Junior Fiction, and Information Book are currently on display in the library. Students will look at these titles during their library sessions and discuss each book with Ms Julie. We’ll see if we agree with the judges when they announce the winners in August.

On Wednesday our whole school participated in National Simultaneous Storytime, an event organised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries and schools at 12pm – this year’s chosen book was Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker. This year over 2.3 million people across Australia participated in the event!

The library is looking for any parents or careers who could help in the library during the first four weeks of Term Three. Anyone that could spare half an hour once or twice a week to help shelve books straight after morning drop off, please contact Ms Julie: julie.schenk@education.vic.gov.au.

Having a clear out at home? The library will gladly receive donations of good quality, used children’s books that are suitable from primary school age children. Donations can be dropped off at the office or in the library.
