Opening Prayer

Loving God, 

Today we celebrate Mothers’ Day. We pray for our mothers and those who are like mothers to us– our grandmothers, our aunties, our sisters, our teachers and our friends. 

May we always remember how intelligent, capable, responsible and hard-working they are and thank them for the love, care and protection they show for us. 

O God, shower our mothers with abundant blessings. We ask this prayer in Jesus’ name.

Blessing of Mothers

We pray for older mums whose children are grown. Grant them joy and satisfaction for a job well done.

We pray for new mums experiencing changes they could not predict. Grant them rest and peace as they trust you for the future.

We pray for pregnant women who will soon be mums. Grant them patience and good counsel in the coming months.

We pray for mums who face the demands of single parenthood. Grant them strength and wisdom.

We pray for step-mums. Grant them patience and understanding and love.

We pray for mums who are separated from their children. Grant them faith and hope.

We pray for mums who have lost children. Grant them comfort in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

We pray for adoptive mothers. Grant them joy and gratitude for the gift you have provided.

We pray for all women who have assumed the mother’s role in a child’s life. Grant them joy and the appreciation of others.

We pray for those people present who are grieving the loss of their mother. Grant them comfort and hope in Christs resurrection.

As a mother protects her children watching over them day by day, so you Lord protect, your arms constantly encircling us and delivering us from harm. For your love, Lord Jesus we thank you.

Loving God. We thank you for mothers for all they mean or have meant for the love they have shown and the care they have given. We thank you for the qualities of mothers. Their patience, their kindness, concern and understanding.

Loving God,

You are always with us, holding us in your loving embrace. We place our mothers in your tender care and ask you to help us to support them when they are weary, to show them compassion and kindness when they need it, and to show them constant love and gratitude.

We ask this in Jesus’ name.
