Prayer

Prayer for the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus,

In Your infinite love, You open wide Your heart to us.

We come before You with grateful hearts, reflecting on Your boundless mercy and compassion.

Your heart, opened for us, overflows with grace and forgiveness.

We seek to dwell in this ocean of divine love.

Lord, teach us to love as You love.

May our hearts mirror Your Sacred Heart, filled with humility, patience, and tenderness.

In moments of joy and sorrow,

may we find our refuge in Your heart.

Grant us the courage to forgive as You forgive,

to serve as You serve,

and to trust in Your divine providence.

Show us how to show love and respect for our indigenous community in Australia, who have suffered so much.

We are brothers and sisters;

let us reach out to each other and honour you in our love for each other.

As we contemplate Your Sacred Heart,

let it ignite in us a fervent desire to spread Your love to others.

Help us to be beacons of Your light in a world that so desperately needs Your peace.

We surrender our fears, our worries, and our burdens to Your loving care.

Transform our hearts to be more like Yours each day.

Sacred Heart of Jesus,

we place all our hopes, our dreams, and our lives in Your hands.

May Your love guide us, sustain us, and bring us closer to You.

With deep faith and unwavering trust, we say:

Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make our hearts like unto Thine.

Amen.

Tomorrow morning our classes will have a prayer focused on the Sacred Heart of Jesus. As always, parents are more than welcome to join us for this class prayer.

We invite all families this Friday to pray with your child's class if you're able to stay. It's the Feast of Sacred Heart of Jesus and we are also acknowledging Reconciliation Week, which was last week. Hope you can stay!

Sacrament of Eucharist

Congratulations to Roberta, Samara, Jordan, Taylah, Rafferty, Milla, Daniel, Madison, Evie, Emma, Hannah, Zach, Dom J, Oscar, Leo, Anthony, Mickey, Dom P and Luca in receiving the Eucharist for the first time last weekend. Both masses were beautiful and reverent celebrations. The children showed confidence and poise as they approached Fr Laurence on this most special day.

Thank you to Fr Laurence and to Deacon Malcolm for their unfailing and ever present support of our families and the staff in all our Sacramental celebrations.

Thank you to Ray Hickey for leading the staff and families in Eucharist preparation and to Des Harding, Louise Hedley, Deanna Imbriano, Katrina Balzat and Ann Lagreca for preparing the children so well.

Child Safety Code of Conduct

You will notice that you have received an Operoo notification regarding an updated adult Child Safety Code of Conduct, which we are asking all parents to please sign. From the commencement of 2024, this updated Code of Conduct has been issued through the Melbourne Archdiocese of Catholic Schools. It now covers all 11 standards, 4 more than the original standards had in place. We ask that all parents please read and acknowledge that they will abide by the new code through this Operoo form. This will be a requirement for all parents wishing to be parent helpers or be onsite during school events, going forward. We appreciate that it's another thing that needs your time and consideration, however it is essential that all families are aware of the ways in which we work towards safety for our children. Thank you for your understanding.

For further reading about the Child Safety Standards please visit the CCYP website here.

Books and Bubbles

Thank you to all the parents who attended last week's Books and Bubbles event to help cover our new literacy resources. It's at times like these that we really see our community at work! Approximately 200 books were covered last week, with another 400 books yet to be covered. We will be holding another book covering session and will let you know soon.

A huge thank you also to the parents and caregivers who have been steadily taking books home to cover as well!! Hugely appreciated!!

St Michael's Events

Have your say!!

If you haven't already, please take a few moments to respond to the Fun Events Survey we currently have running. Kinder Kids session

On Friday 14th June (next week) we will hold our next Kinder Kids session and we'll be running a mini PE lesson. So let's get our runners on and something comfortable to wear and our Year Fives are going to guide us in the session with our four year olds. Mums and Dads, I'm sure you would love to be part of it too!!

Update for Year Three/Four G

As many of you will be aware, Mrs Deanna Imbriano will shortly be taking parental leave. We are greatly excited for her and Josh, her husband, in this special time in their lives.

St Michael’s School has been through the process of advertising and interviewing for Deanna’s replacement over these past months. We are pleased to announce that Mrs Kylie Ashton will be taking up the classroom teacher position in Year Three/Four Green, commencing Monday 15th July. Many of you will know Kylie as both a parent and also in her role as Kindergarten Teacher in two of our local Kindergartens. Kylie also has six years experience in Primary Education. We are fortunate to have her wonderful skills here at St Michael's and we warmly welcome her to our staff.

Year One/Two Excursion - MCG

Last week our Year One/Two students attended the Melbourne Cricket Ground as part of their Inquiry learning around Health and Fitness. The whole group took the train to Richmond and thank you to our many parent helpers who were able to accompany the students. After a tour of the grounds and a chance to get close to the hallowed turf, the children had a chance to explore the museum and see photos and memorabilia about some of the greats of the game. An inspiring day and one which I'm sure they will discuss in class over the coming weeks.

AFL players at St Michael's!

It was a great thrill yesterday to have Melbourne FC players visit the Prep to Year 2 students. Upon arrival they told us they would be happy to speak to all the students and sign their footy items. They also signed a notice for everyone to take home if they wished. The children had many questions to ask, including what foods they like and what they do after the games. The players were very generous with their time, signing their special items after the QandA session. The players included: Bailey Fritsch, Ed Langdon, Christian Salem, Daniel Turner and Josh Schache.

For any parents interested in arranging for their child to enter AFL Auskick mid season, see details below for a club near you.

Hoop Time Year Three/Four

Yesterday our Year Three/Four teams attended Hoop Time at the Nunawading Basketball Centre. Two very excited teams played their best in their games, chasing down every ball and supporting their team members throughout the games. Our girls team was successful in getting to the semi-final and we're so proud of all our players for their efforts.

TheirCare Out of Hours Care

As noted earlier this week via Operoo, our Out of Hours Care program will be switching to TheirCare from Monday 15th July, the beginning of Term 3. We will be holding an information evening for any parents wishing to attend to find out a little bit more about the program on Thursday 13th June, 6.15pm in the Supper Room.
